Introduction:
Technical Writing is different than normal creative or non-technical writing since through technical writing the aim of the writer is to communicate technical processes or information as well as instructions in a simple easy to follow way. The main reason for choosing technical writing course is the scope for creative work in different technical fields like Computer and electronics , Information technology, healthcare, administration/ government, business management, finance management and education to name a few. There is also ample scope of writing manuals and processes and simplifying technical processes for end user use like for the guidance manuals provided with electronics. The scope of learning new things and understanding new technologies provides great mental satisfaction and also provides a great feeling that follows after being able to communicate a very complex process or thing and explain it in a way that’s understandable for all. This provides a sense of satisfaction and is an enriching experience. The content requires it to be written for a special set of people who are the audience, the structure of the document needs to be clear, while the processes or information written needs to be easy to understand and correct; all these challenges make technical writing one of the best writing concepts(Kelley, 2006).
No I have not written technical writing earlier but I would love to be able to write for a technical company which creates manuals and brochures. I am particularly interested in writing for online technical magazines which provide easy to read information for the general readers as well as technology enthusiasts. These magazines collect information on various topics which are related to new product releases in the technology sector, information about smart phones, accessories, robotics, aviation and many more interesting topics. The best thing about being able to write in an online technical magazine would be the scope of working with various interesting topics and people. The possibility to expand my writing skills and knowledge and the option to constantly challenge and change my writing for different topics would provide me better scope for improvement. So I would be interested in writing for technical magazines(Wilkins, 2013).
Example of poor technical writing is easily found in many online magazines and forums which talk about technical and electronics. The IT industry often requires technical writing for people to understand the concepts properly or at least have an idea about the topic being in discussion. But more often than not, these are poorly written, One of the most common problems associated with technical writing is that it s often written by authors who are not sure or have not grasped the topic themselves, resulting to poorly written papers, journals and manuals. Need the job of the technical writer is to create a piece of text that has the topic they are to write in a simple way without the use of too much technicalities and details. It is true that no one wants to read detailed texts as manuals or procedures, all they need are simple to follow instructions (Roberts, 2011).
While reading the E&T online magazine last week the main concept understood was that eh magazine aims to create posts and articles that can be understood by the average layman without the need for him to be someone who’s interested in technology. In an article dated 26th August the news of the Apple’s new iOS update was included, the write up was crisp without any use of unnecessary technicalities, It presented the information correctly without weighing it down with details. News on the same magazine provided the news of a 3D printer being used for building a new office in Dubai which was fully functional. The news too was presented in an easy to read way without the use of extra details and technicalities. The story albeit interesting was presented in a shorter version with figure out pictures and interesting facts. The people reading it would be able to figure out that that the house built was not conventional and the use of modern 3d printers were the highlight of the story. The discover magazine provided another such instance where the story of a drone delivering a Domino’s pizza was highlighted. The readers were presented the story in .a simple way and the pictures helped make the story more interesting. In an article from Computer World online magazine the latest changes to be implemented by Whatsapp and Facebook was highlighted. The essence of the post was that Facebook will be using Whatsapp to extract more data about the user’s choices and preferences for better advertisement targeting. The post in question was written well, with the main focus on the major risk that’s bound to be in the mind of users, of getting unwanted updates or sending unwanted messages between the platforms. Security issues were also explained in detail but were easy to read, which is a great example of technical writing (G, 2009)

In the two paragraphs above the first paragraph uses better and direct language which includes the specifications of the product in question viz. the iMac. Whilst the second paragraph highlights the looks and aesthetics of the same component. This results in a top paragraph that highlights the main points and the following one that highlights why the user should purchase the product (Aidoo, 2009).
