Question:

Discuss about the Leadership Model for Skill or Ability.

Answer:

Introduction:

Leadership is the practical skill or ability that helps an individual to guide or lead an organisation or team to achieve a particular goal. According to Golemanet al.(2013), leaders should have a set of traits or attributes such as devotion, enthusiasm, loyalty, determination and care. Therefore, in this essay the main attempt is to develop a leadership model that consists of at least four major areas or perspectives such as, ethics, teamwork, power and multiculturalism. The leadership areas, which have been considered in this model, would help to build a collaborative working culture.

Ethics can help to achieve the equality and anti racism among the employees of an organisation while the element multiculturalism can help to diversify the workforce (Goethals et al. 2014).On the other hand, teamwork helps to achieve a broad goal by dividing the employees into smaller teams that enables them to attain the desired goal easily. Power is another element, which has been considered in this leadership model. It would help to gain good command over the workforce. Additionally, there would be a system of practicing a diversified work culture without any racism. Therefore, in this study it has been tried to develop the leadership model that can help to achieve the organisational objectives and goals with good teamwork.

Discussion

Leaders are the main pillars of any successful organisation that can achieve their desired goal or target. If in an organisation there, a good leader is present, then the success of the organisation is hopeful. However, having a leader is not enough for a company to walk towards the success; the leaders need to be good individuals having an ability to handle organizational challenges. In this leadership model, the vital issue that have to be removed to provide a good example of leadership is the relationship making. According to Aaker and Joachimsthaler (2012), building a good communication with the employees or workers with whom the leader has to work with is highly essential. Generally, in any organisation the leaders present themselves as the superior in the workplace and maintain a minimum distance from the junior level workers or employees. Therefore, a distance automatically arises between the leaders and the employees. However, in order to achieve a particular target in business, participation of all members in the company is necessary. Therefore, to get the best result in a business organisation, it is very important to develop a good relationship with the employees or workers. It helps the leaders to understand the problems of the employees and to work according to the need to improve the environment. The attributes like credibility, developing proper vision for the company and traits to improve the organisation are also important in building a good leadership model. However, developing a good relationship with the workers is essential to build an appropriate leadership.

Every organisation wants to develop their leadership model in a way, which can affect their business processes to improve their business and profitability. As opined by Daft (2014), some traits have to be in a person to become a good leader. A leader should be someone exhibiting a refined attitude and showing great loyalty to his work. Apart from this, the caring nature, devotion to work, enthusiasm, awareness and decisiveness are essential characteristics that a person has to possess to become a successful leader. All these characteristics can make a person think minutely about the business processes and understand the requirements of the company as well as the employees to develop the overall business. Therefore, to build a good leadership model it is essential to have a leader who possesses these traits. However, in this leadership model the most important traits that are required are determination and communication. Determination is the attribute that enables a leader to look at the far future (Johnston and Marshall 2016). Additionally, this trait helps to set the organisational goal and objective of the organisation, which is very important to lead a workforce to a particular direction. Along with this, the leader should have the trait of communication skill. This trait helps to interact with people in the organisation to understand their expectations from the company as well as the customers. As a leader, one would need to interact with the employees or workers to develop a good relationship with them. It helps the leaders to lead the workforce in the way to get maximum success. In this respect, some traits help constitute a good leader who can achieve the ultimate business success. These traits include awareness, empathy, optimism, positive attitude, confidence and honesty (Bass 2011).The leaders can influence others with these traits. In this study, in order to gain the maximum profitability, determination and communication traits are the most important.

In this leadership model, the main areas on which the model is focussing is the ethical perspectives, multiculturism, team performance and power. Among these, power has been considered as the core value of the leadership model. Generally, leaders in an organisation sometimes do not get the opportunity to lead the organisation with total power. Organisations possess certain positions where the leaders are vested with the responsibility to improve the organization profit internally, without any power being given to them (Roueche et al. 2014). Therefore, in this study, the focus is on power, to enable the leaders to take the decisions required to change the strategies of the business. For instance, in an organisation, the post of a team leader is very responsible position and responsibility to complete. However, the team leader has the responsibilities to lead their team in order to achieve the success without any power in their hand. In this leadership model, the key assumption is considered that every person can lead if the power is given to him or her. Therefore, in case of a crisis, the team leader may not be able to take any decision regarding the matter. Therefore, in this model power should be the core value of the leadership to develop a better leadership style that can improve the organisational strategies to gain the business profitability.

The organisational environment is extremely essential to get the opportunity to build a good workforce system that can help to achieve the ultimate goal of the company. In order to gain this organisational benefit, the leadership model should be developed through teamwork (Aaker and Joachimsthaler 2012). Teamwork enables the team members to work together. If in a team, the members can work together without any internal problem, then the overall team should perform well in the work. In this case, the leadership model is emphasising the teamwork culture to develop organisational business. Therefore, the leaders who can lead a team in a proper way, in no doubt can reach the company to higher level in business. The team has to maintain a good relationship with every member so that they can work with each other without any problem. Therefore, a good relationship with the team members is very helpful to achieve the success.

According to the leadership model, in this study, organisational culture is considered as an extremely essential factor for attaining success. If in an organisation, the employees are bothered about their culture all the time, then they will not give their best performance to the company (Chhokar et al. 2013). Therefore, an organisation should develop a culture within the organisation, where the employees need not have to think about their background cultures. Instead of this, the employees will train with multicultural values and principles, which will enable them to work together as a team. Therefore, in this leadership model, the leader should implement the multicultural attitude to influence the teamwork system, which in turn will help the leader to achieve the ultimate growth for the organisation. Along with this, the company should encourage the employees to maintain the ethical values of the organisation (Goethals et al. 2014). Ethics are the base of any person as well as organisation. Therefore, maintaining of ethics is essential to maintain the organisational values and principles. The business strategies and policies can be changed according to the requirement of the business, but the ethics cannot be changed in any time.

In this leadership model, the organisation was practicing the autocratic leadership model to develop their business structure and profit. However, in this system the leaders have the whole authority to take any decision regarding business process and internal processes in order to achieve the organisational goal. However, in this process the organisation cannot gain the profit every time. Therefore, the organisation has faced problems regarding the employees to maintain the relationship. Therefore, in this model the transformational leadership, situational leadership and transactional leadership should be implemented here to gain the maximum performance from the employees. The reason behind choosing situational leadership is to handle critical situation. It helps to analyse the requirement of a particular situation, which further assist to determine the best leadership practice. These leadership styles will help the leaders to lead the company towards success.

Conclusion

In concluding the essay, it can be said that the study has developed a leadership model that can emphasise on the four essential areas such as, ethics, teamwork, power and multiculturism. Therefore, the model has covered the four areas to avoid the racism among the employees of the organisation through ethics and provide a multiculture as the organisational culture. The core value of this leadership model is considered here the power. As the power is necessary to lead a group of people properly, therefore this has considered being the core value of the leadership model. Along with this, the model has discussed the significance of working in a team and therefore, has included teamwork in the model to make it more proficient. Therefore, the development of this leadership model can help to attain the desired profit in the business as well as success.
