Discuss about the Online Privacy Ethics.

Answer:

Introduction

The increased usage of the internet or online services has increased the risk of the privacy for the consumers in the present scenario. Today the businesses which are storing the consumer’s data or collect the consumers are mainly preferred by the hackers.  Refer this report, we shall discuss this significant and ethical issue, plus shall provide valuable suggestions in regard to the user privacy and the protection in the digital world.

Almost around 20 years back, people had a belief that the internet is a safe place where one may share his/her personal as well as professional information. But now some drastic changes have occurred, as the landscape of the internet has changed a lot along with all kinds of its privacy standards. So many of the companies have started to collect information from the users of the internet. Suck kinds of the data-driven businesses basically happen to sit at the backbone that concerns the free internet. The data which are harvested from millions of lakhs of users is analyzed carefully, bought and then sold in order to make a big number of profiles so as to target the advertisements to the users. The Modernization of the software has now allowed completely free propagating of the data all across the internet web world.

There are so many free applications which are present on the web, however, such free things also come at a cost: User Privacy. The worldwide company has tracked customers all over the web to target them for more audience to the advertisements which they add on their websites and finally which adds to their pocket revenues (Basu, 2005). In case we see it refer the business point of view, this looks to be completely fine as it provides the users comprehensive and free access to the applications of the internets and in return, it gains the personal and private information of those clients. But refer the ethical perspective view, keeping an eye or a track on the internet users irrespective of their proper knowledge may also be considered as totally blatant.

Ethical Issues:

In present times, a technology which is named as the Third Party Tracking Cookie has been introduced, this is a tiny piece of user data which gets stored in the web browser of the user and is later on sent to and also from so many of the various websites whenever that user browses on the internet. It enables the companies to completely track the users across the big network. Due to this, the ethical concerns are enhancing (Caudill & Murphy, 2000). At the time, when it becomes very easy to store, gather, and also use the personal data of the internet users, the requirement of the company is to give a check to the ethical dilemma that is concerned or associated with it.

The ethics involves recommendations and the systematizations regarding the clear concept of what is right and what is not. Most of the theorists believe that the privacy to be a valuable concept. There are so many of the advantage as well as disadvantages plus the different views which the theorists discuss and describe. Here we shall comprehensively analyze the topic ie the “Privacy” from the point of view of 2 different and classical theories.

Deontological Theory

The deontological theory is the virtue-based ethics plus the consequentialist theory is, on the other hand, a right based kind of theory. As the utilitarianism theory examines and explains the presence plus the importance of the rights, these are well derivative, these are also not at all foundational. Refer this derivative character, the absolutism degree is connected and concerned with the deontological theory (Kulynych, 2002).

The theory claims that the correctness of any kind of action is not at all dependent on its ability to make and generate ends, but it follows right from the fundamental features which concerns that act. The concerned theory is well framed refer the language of human rights (Ishihara, 2010). In present times, there is involved a firm need of the moral discourse which is required to be present in the form of the human rights.

The main 4 basic sources so as to derive the rights are the legal rights, human rights, contract rights and the position rights.

Consequentialist Theory:

The consequentialist theory maintains and explains that the fundamental ethical judgment includes what state of the affair is good and what state is bad. The most significant theory of the consequentialist is the utilitarianism. Most influential of them are the hedonistic act kind of the utilitarianism that gives total right action which produces a big amount of happy moments and a lesser amount of moments of pain. The theory also provides a comprehensive base for the rights of human beings than in comparison to any other theory. The concerned theory also explains the adequate importance of human rights and their existence.

The right to Privacy is a complete fundamental aspect of the people and is an important social value as well. Such a kind of the right is not at all self-verifying (Kelly & Rowland, 2000). Thus, it is not correct to propose any kind of arguments which cannot be verifiable plus the intuition is the one and only guiding determinant in such a case. So, the only left way in order to justify a right to the privacy while being within the circumference of the theoretical framework is to properly get back to the basic fundamental values which are advanced by the recognition of the proper right to the privacy policy. The hacking has in it all these actions with the unauthorized access to the computer resources. Such kinds of the terms are seen in the negative approach in order to reach at one’s information for the malicious tasks.

Conclusion:

The privacy is the moral right of each and every human being. Such a right is very much discussed when the information or the data collection systems are referred. It is clearly discussed in the concerned paper that why the right to privacy is significant and also how it is getting globally affected by the latest technology. The computer privacy has not been a moral right, thus, carefully maintaining the computer security is vital in order to protect the rights of a person and also it’s and interests (Landau, 2014). The ethical analysis of the concept of privacy and the security issues, assist the professionals to come to a conclusion so that they may resolve the moral dilemmas plus also introduce the guidelines which may help to use the information technology.
