VAP is preventable by using non-invasive ventilation, proper hand hygiene, semi-recumbent positioning, subglottal suctioning, decontamination of the oral cavity, endotracheal tubes with the antimicrobial coating, application of suitable antibiotics and length of treatment. CLABSI can be totally prevented by interventions like proper hand hygiene, use of sterile equipment and skin preparation (2).

One emerging potency which can work as a driving force for quality improvement in healthcare is the advancement in technology and research making quality easier to demonstrate and measure. Usage of sophisticated data linkage systems can result in merging important data systems for improving the excellence of care. The introduction of the electronic health record is a potential opportunity to advance patient safety. Development of evidence-based medicine is also important for improving the quality of health care. Effective implementation of technologies and obtaining essential data for the better performance demands collaborations using existing and emerging electronic data systems.
