Transition Management

Question:

Write an essay on Transition Management.

Answer:

Transition management is one of the major components of the business that enables the organization to experience the profitable growth. Organizational change facilitates the business to enhance its effectiveness in the marketplace. Johnson (2014) has argued that organizational change needs a proper planning process in order to achieve the organizational objectives. Moreover, it requires the process, human, and technological objectives supporting the implementation of the organizational vision. Most business analysts have agreed with the fact that organizational change and transition are required for the enhancement of the business in the global platform. The transition process includes four major stages including clear vision, endings, neutral zone and a new beginning (Kerzner, 2013). Transition process facilitates the management of the organization to transmit knowledge, control, and access. In this context, the researcher highlights the impact of project transition in the business. I would like to highlight the transition process included in my organization. However, the particular transition process has failed due to poor managerial capabilities. Through the engagement of evaluating issues on the project transition, I would be able to identify the key development areas in the business.

Cost cutting indicates the measurement process implemented in the organization in order to reduce the expenses (Loorbach & Wijsman 2013). Consequently, it facilitates improving the profit rate in the business. However, it depends on the organization’s administration system and protocols. Nowadays, pay rates are increasingly high in the business. Hence, the organization focuses on the cost cutting process to uphold the business in an effective manner.

In this context, the researcher would focus on the evaluation of the impact of the transition process in the business. The researcher engages research aim and objectives for investigating the research in an effective manner. Moreover, the researcher provides the brief problem statement along with the methodology in order to analyze the topic in a systematic manner.

Problem Statement

Although the project transition is one of the major aspects of the business enhancement, organizations face several challenges in order to establish the process in an effective manner. The prime issue of the project transition is that the organization faces difficulties for implementing a new process in the business due to less knowledge on the particular subject (Gassmann, Widenmayer & Zeschky 2012). However, the management implements several strategies in the business for executing the new project in the business. In this scenario, the business needed external experts to conduct the new project transition in the business. Lack of resources causes project failure in the business (Ferreira et al., 2013). However, the business needs to provide extra resources for engaging external expert conducting the project transition.

In this scenario, the lack of resources affects the transition process. Consequently, the transition process fails. On the other hand, the managerial ineffectiveness is another reason for the failure of the process. Sometimes, the management is unable to adopt the different business culture. Consequently, it reduces the growth of the business. Another issue of the project transition is that the weaker connection between the project manager and organization. External project managers may not be able to adopt the organizational culture properly, and it causes challenges in the project execution process (Parida et al., 2014).

One of the major issues for the project transition is that the organization needs to utilize a huge amount of capital in order to execute the transition process in the business. Small business often faces difficulties in investing capital in the business (Ferreira et al., 2013). Consequently, the business fails to execute the project transition process in the business. In this scenario, the business invests all resources to conduct the project transition process in an appropriate manner. However, the managerial inactiveness towards the new process causes failure for the business. Although the particular organization has initiated the cost cutting process in the business to enhance the trade activities, the management issues have affected the process (Jacobsson, M., Burström & Wilson, 2013). Hence, it can be assessed the

RESEARCH OBJECTIVES/ QUESTIONS

AIM

The aims of the project are to assess the impacts of

Improper knowledge transfer

Improper cost cutting

Insufficient resources on project handover

The researcher would highlight these research issues in order to evaluate the key development areas in the business. The project transition process has several challenges including knowledge transferring issues, cost cutting problems, and insufficient resources. Nowadays, the transition process is one of the major aspects of the enhancement of the business. Through the engagement of investigating the particular topic, the researcher would be able to identify the key challenges affecting the organizational performance.

The researcher develops a set of objectives based on the research topic. With the involvement of the research objectives, the researcher would be able to investigate the research issues in an effective manner. The research objectives are stated as follows:

To investigate the project transition process implemented in the organization

To analyze the impact of the project transition on the business

The researcher develops research questions based on the research objectives. It facilitates the researcher to conduct the research investigation in a detailed manner. Moreover, the research question allows the researcher identifying the key issues of the research topic. The researcher develops following research questions:

What are the challenges for implementing the project transition method in the business?

How does organization obtain benefits from the project transition process implemented in the business?

How does the improper knowledge transfer reduce the effectiveness of the project transition process in the business?

How does the managerial support facilitate in implementing project transition process in the business?

What are the issues of the resource management in implementing new project transition in the business?

How does the organization can perk up the project transition method implemented in the business?

JUSTIFICATION OF THE PROJECT

The researcher executes the projects in order to evaluate the project transition process and its impacts on the business. It has been seen that the project transition is one of the major components of the business enhancement. In recent years, most organizations have been focusing on the project transition for enhancing their business opportunities in the global market. However, the organization needs to invest capital, external experts and other resources for the establishment of the process in the business (Adam et al., 2012). In this context, the project transition process was failed due to poor managerial capabilities in the business. The organization has failed to provide adequate training to their staffs and employees to adopt the project transition process in an effective manner. In this context, the researcher would evaluate the impacts of the cost-cutting process on the business as it allows the business to reduce the expenses of the business. The project has ramped down within 5 months. It was a million dollar loss for the business. Project transition failure may occur for several reasons including insufficient resources, fail to adopt the external culture, lack of management responsibilities, lack of training and knowledge on the new system (Hill, 2013). Through the engagement of conducting this particular research, the researcher would able to highlight some key challenges for executing project transition process in the business. The possible benefits of conducting this particular research are provided below:

The research study will facilitate the organization to understand the rationale of project transition failure in the business

The particular research proposal will highlight the key challenges for implementing project transition process in the business

The research proposal will facilitate the senior management of the organization to recognize the importance of project transition in the business

The researcher will identify the management’s responsibilities for conducting the project transition process in an effective manner

The research proposal will highlight the outcome of the project transition implemented in the business

EXPECTED RESEARCH OUTPUT/OUTCOME

The research outcome consists of a wide range of information on the research topic of project transition and management responsibilities. Through the engagement of involving the analytical framework, the researcher investigates the research topic in an appropriate manner. On the other hand, the researcher evaluates the factors affecting the project transition process in the business. In this scenario, the researcher evaluates the possible rationale on the failure of project transition at the organization. Moreover, the researcher would focus on three major aspects including improper knowledge transfer, cost-cutting process, and insufficient resources handover. Hence, it can be assessed that the research outcome would facilitate the particular organization to understand the possible rationale for the failure of the project transition in the business. Nowadays, small and medium enterprises focus on the project transition outsources in order to enhance the business in an effective manner. However, the organization needs to accumulate the proper resources for upholding the process in future. In this context, the project transition process got a failure due to insufficient resources and lack of management responsibilities. The research outcome would provide in-depth analysis on the impact of the project transition in the business and process to uphold it in an efficient manner.

SECTION II

CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK AND RESEARCH HYPOTHESIS

Urbonavicius & Dikcius (2015) have discussed beneficial aspect of the project transition, as it facilitates the organization to enhance its business opportunity in an effective manner. Small and medium enterprise include project transition or project outsourcing in order to expand the business in the large demographic marketplace. It facilitates to accumulate adequate revenue from the business. On the other hand, Bergmann & Stephan, (2013) has argued that the organization faces several challenges for implementing the project transition process in the business. Sometimes, lack of resources causes difficulties for the organization to execute the transition process in an effective manner. Soja & Paliwoda-Pękosz (2013) have suggested that the management responsibilities are the major components for obtaining success in the project transition process. However, the management may take extra time to adopt the new system in the business. Hill, Jones & Schilling (2014) have discussed that the management is responsible for providing enhanced training and development session to employees for executing the new projects in the business. The process must be executed in a systematic manner. On the other hand, the Corrall (2012) has highlighted the beneficial aspects of the project transition process in the business. Cost flexibility is a major outcome of project transition as t is easier to increase or decrease the cost as per the needs. Moreover, it provides a high level of objectivity in the business. The management obtains more objectivity view from the project transition process. Loorbach & Wijsman (2013) have agreed with the fact that Project transition allows the organization to adopt a new business culture in the work design, and it enhances the business opportunity for the organization. In this context, the researcher develops the research hypothesis based on the problem statement and the objective of the problem. In this study, the researcher will test the following hypothesis to avoid research errors.

H1: Alternative Hypothesis: Managerial responsibilities facilitate in conducting the project transition process in the business.

H0: Null Hypothesis: Managerial responsibilities do not facilitate in conducting the project transition process in the business.

METHODOLOGY

The researcher would execute the following methodology to analyze the aims and objectives of the research topic of project transition and management responsibilities. The methodologies are stated as below:

Literature Review: In the literature review section, the researcher investigates the research topic in a detailed approach. Moreover, the researcher analyzes the research topic through different theoretical perspectives. Distinct viewpoints of authors facilitate the researcher in evaluating the key issues of the research topic (Flick, 2015). On the other hand, the literature review would provide a detailed theoretical analysis of the project transition process implemented in the business. The researcher would also evaluate the challenges for the implementation process of project transition. With the involvement of different theoretical views, the researcher would be able to shed lights on the research topic (Mackey & Gass, 2015). In this context, the researcher would include some theories and models on the business transition for investigating the research topic in an effective manner.

Data collection method: The researcher includes several tools and techniques in order to accumulate data from different sources. The researcher involves these accumulated data for analyzing it in an effective manner (Miller et al., 2012). In this context, the researcher would engage both survey questionnaires and interview method to accumulate data on the particular research topic. The survey questionnaires suggest the data collection process on the research topic.

In this context, the researcher involves the primary data collection method for accumulating relevant information on the particular research topic of project transition and management responsibilities in the business. With the involvement of the primary data collection process, the researcher would be able to gather a huge amount of reliable data on the research topic (Neuman and Robson, 2012). The prime advantage of conducting primary data collection is that it provides current data based on the market statistics. Hence, it would facilitate the researcher in investigating the recent issues of project transition in the organization (Panneerselvam, 2014).

The researcher avoids the secondary method, as it may not be able to provide current data on the research topic. On the other hand, the topic is based on the case study where the project transition process has failed in the business. Hence, the secondary research method would not be an appropriate method for executing the accurate reason behind the failure of the process. Moreover, the secondary data includes several sources including books, journals, websites, and other online portals. Hence, the data accuracy may be at risk (Pickard, 2012).

The researcher develops the survey questionnaires based on the research topic of project transition and its impact on the business. The researcher would identify the 75 potential employees or respondents, who would take participate in the survey process. On the other hand, the researcher would engage 5 key professionals of the organization in order to accumulate the detailed report on the project transition process implemented in the business. Hence, the sample size for the project is 75 respondents and 5 key professionals of the company. In this context, the researcher identifies the respondents and professionals based on the non-probability sampling technique. Random selection process facilitates the researcher in accumulating the viable data on the particular research topic (Robson & McCartan, 2016). The particular sample selection process is also a time-saving process.

In this context, the researcher would include the semi-structured interview for conducting the interview session with the key professionals of the organizations. In the semi-structured interview process, the researcher would provide 30-35 minutes timeframe to professionals for accumulating research data. In the interview session, the researcher may ask professionals about the possible reasons for the failure of project transition process implemented in the business (Taylor, Bogdan & DeVault, 2015). On the other hand, the researcher would ask about the improper knowledge transfer, the cost-cutting process and the impact of insufficient resource management in the business.

Data analysis method: The data analysis plan can be categorized into two parts including qualitative and quantitative data analysis. However, the mixed method (both qualitative and quantitative) indicates the reliable process for analyzing the accumulated research data in an effective manner. The qualitative analysis would allow the researcher to identify the key issues of project transitions process implemented in the organization (Csikszentmihalyi & Larson, 2014). On the other hand, the quantitative research method provides huge, reliable data on the research topic. Quantitative data facilitates the researcher to make an in-depth investigation of the research topic.

In this context, the researcher includes the mixed method for investigating the research topic. Hence, the researcher accumulates both qualitative and quantitative data from the professionals and respondents respectively (Cudjoe et al., 2013). Moreover, the researcher evaluates the several statistical values including mean, median, mode and standard deviation to investigate the projects transition process. The researcher also executes the hypothesis testing to avoid type I and type II errors.

The researcher employs several concepts from the literature review to investigate the research topic in a detailed approach. Different theoretical approaches of authors facilitate the researcher enhancing the research quality in an effective manner (Panneerselvam 2014).
