Introductions:

There has been a huge impact of COVID 19 on the entire hotel and hospitality industry all over the world. This is because due to the arrival and rapid increase in the rate of the pandemic, there has been a long social distancing norm that has been declared. In addition to this, the travel and tourism industry has also suffered a huge loss because transportation, hotels, and the hospitality industry had also become the victims of the lockdown and the methods of maintaining the social distancing. It is for this reason that all the hotel industries have tried gradually to abide by the different forms that have been made by the State and regularly restart their business.

Hotel Hyatt Grand has also suffered immensely due to the pandemic. Sun, Wandelt, and  Zhang (2021) think due to the ban or the restriction on the flights and other modes of transportation. This assignment has dealt with the different aspects of the company like the history, background, and others and the sales figures along with the same. In the year 1954 Hyatt Robert von Dehn and Jack Dyer Crouch as a motel near Los Angeles International Airport. However later on the hotel has been modified and also set out in many different places (hyatt.com.2021).

There are about 100000 employees worldwide who are trying to work day and night to serve the guests and also to provide them the best possible services. The Hyatt hotel is a premium brand hotel that tries to provide the best services particularly to the customers or the people coming from the upper-class income groups. However, due to the harsh covid 19 impact, it has been seen that there was a sharp fall in the revenue rate of the hotel. A long-standing ban on business meetings also damaged the overall business levels of the organization This is because there was also a ban on the meetings and overseas transactions or business meetings.

The revenue has been declining at a much rapid rate due to the non-functionality of the hotel rooms and all the urgent and inter-country business meetings. In addition to the bush fire, the arrival of the huge ravaging covid 19 impacts has made a huge decline in the number of sales. The decline rate almost rose from 25 percent to 81 percent. It must be noted that the room occupancy or the rate had been slightly less in Australia due to the bush fires. Following that the sales and revenue feel to a great extent with the arrival of covid 19 pandemics. This shows that the hotel sales have drastically fallen because the important events and the meetings that were carried on during the other times of the year also have been drastically fallen.

The cancellation of events like the Melbourne Grand Prix and the other major events in the cities has resulted in a sharp fall or a sharp decrease in the room occupancy rates and other such aspects. This has been a significant reason behind the falling sales. However, at the same time, it must be noted that Australia is a domestic market and so the ban on Internal visiting or International meetings and cross borders travels would not have a bad or damaging impact on Australia. It is because of the ban on interstate travel or the restriction on non-essential travel that have drastically impacted the hotels and the hospitality sectors in Australia.

The surveys that have been carried out show that there is a huge fear that is existing among people. It is evident from the survey that a greater section of people think that business will not be back to normal before the span of 18 months. About 41 percent of people feel that more than 18 months will be needed for the hotels to be able to bring back their business to normal (hospitalitynet.org.2020). On the other hand, the rest 37percent of the people think that there is the requirement of 12 to 18 months for the business to revive. There is still a constant fear or doubt within the minds of the employees, staff, and the other stakeholders to start the work without any issues.

However, with the gradual decrease in the numbers of the Covid positive cases the hotel and hospitality sector once again started gaining back normalcy. However, they are now gradually working for improving the sales figure but it will be tough for them (aaoa.com.au.2020). They are trying to abide by the health and safety policies so that they can take proper care of their staff and guests. They are not participating in the Government quarantine program, which means that the hotel is functional and is slowly trying to pick up the pace for reviving their sales figure.

The applied creativity and innovation model can be used to identify the issues or the challenges that the hotel face and the ayes in which they can overcome the same.

Challenges- The changes that are being faced are

  • Maintenance of the safety norms by all the staff. Working with the mask, using hand gloves and other such aspects has to be made mandatory. This is becoming very difficult for the staff in the beginning. This is because all the employees have to be given the proper training so that they can learn these new ways and then work soundly.
  • The other issue is maintaining distance. Being a hotel or hospitality sector, it is becoming a huge issue to maintain the safety precautions or the distances. This is because the employees always have to maintain the one-meter distance. This is also a new aspect that has to be taught to all the employees so that they can keep that in mind while working.
  • The other challenge I the financial crunch. Camilleri (2018)thinks that as there is a ban on cross-border traveling or International traveling, it is becoming a tough job for all the hotels including the Hyatt Grand for maintaining the high cost that is involved. It is because without the arrival of guests it will not be possible for the hotels to make the needed amount of money for the maintenance.

Explore- The current situation of the company is that they are on the gradual verge of improving their services so that they can help the employees and the guests. In other words, they are trying to abide by the WHO health and safety guidelines so that they can take better and improved care of all the stakeholders and ensure that the business is being able to be carried on easily.

Solutions (generating ideas)

  • This is applicable for two registered guests living in per guest room and this has started from 31 MAY, 2021. This is one of the best solutions that must be used by the company so that they can carry on with their business in a proper way and also customer satisfaction will be increased.
  • To keep some better on-spot medical facilities for all the guests so that the guests can get a kind of safe and assured stay in the hotel.

Designing

The hotel can design it by forming some partnership with health care facilities or hospitals so that they can get a free flow of oxygen supplies and other emergency medicines and other aids that they might need while taking care of the guests if they fall sick.

Implementation

They have to bring some discounts in their prices so that they can attract more guests from the other income groups as well. This will also help in making some more amount of money or earn more revenue that can be used by the company for better developments and developing better infrastructural facilities as well.

The ticket reservation policies and cancellation policies have to be remodeled so that all the guests can get a free and flexible stay. This will help the guests in getting a smooth transactional system without suffering from the fear of loss of their money during the booking, reservation, or the cancellation of their rooms.

Roadmap

The employee attrition rate will be one of the best tools to measure the success of the plans that are being implemented. If the employee attrition rate is less and the employee retention rate is more then the hotel must know that they have been able to implement the methods properly.
