The attacks  of September 11^th, which is also known as the 9/11 attacks consisted of a series of airline hijacking as well as suicide attacks which took place in 2001 and was done by a group of 19 militants who were connected with Al-Qaeda (an Islamist extremist group). The attacks took place in the United States is still remembered by the public conscience as one of the most deadly attacks that had been committed till date. It became a reason for a huge number of destruction and mass killings.  The attacks resulted in outcomes that the world is still grappling with and it is felt till the present day. The attacks of 9/11 led to the initiation of wars on a global scale within Iraq as well as Afghanistan which also resulted in mass killings (Cruickshank, 2021).

The collapse of the World Trade Center and the large-scale destruction resulted in lonh-term outcomes in relation to mental health. It resulted in people suffering from PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), depression, throughout the region. The Department of Health in the New York City took swift action. It evacuated the people who were stuck there, set up an emergency response infrastructure. It set up emergency medical centers wherein medications were transported and made available. The days following the attack witnessed mass surveillance taking place to conduct an assessment of the injuries in relation to the attack, from DOH. They also took care of routine functions as well as worked on enhancing the system of communication (Dahl, 2020).

Even till date terrorism could not be eliminated. There are many countries which have continued to suffer from terrorist attacks in the recent past, though the scale of destruction can never be paralleled with the 9/11 attacks. The basic learning’s that the attacks taught can be categorized into the following:

Sharing vital intelligence: Though there were prior signs of the attack and the FBI as well as CIA could sense the brewing of some plot, they were unable to apprehend that the scale of destruction would reach this level. However, gathering vital intelligence can also be unable to prevent attacks if the right decisions are not taken at the right time on the way in which tasks should be prioritized.

Importance of a careful selection of partners: The mass panic that took place after the attacks made it vivid that the intelligence from the US as well as Britain ultimately cooperated with some specific regimes which had hideous records regarding human rights and they faced the consequences (Jones, 2021).

Following the attacks, the countries have been more or less careful about the aforementioned lessons. However, what continues to be ignored till date or is not paid proper importance is the necessity of an exit plan. It is not unlikely that there will be no further invasions paralleling the scale of 9/11. However, nations still continue to be casual about the strategies that can be formulated in order to avoid destruction of this kind. What is also necessary is to chalk out a proper plan of the ways in which recovery can be made, in case a situation like this takes place once again.
