Microsystem: The microsystem is the first level of Bronfenbrenner’s theory and in this stage, the people, who come with direct contact with a child, like Norah in their close environment like parents, friends and teachers. As the most influential environment on my child, she experiences the same when she is with her peers as she immediately picks up on their habits and retains the same quickly.
Exosystem: The exosystem is the third stage of Bronfenbrenner’s ecological system theory. Norah experiences this with the change in her school locations.
Macrosystem: The macrosystem is experienced by Norah when she attends preschool and later on attends her school.
I would like to describe Norah’s temperament as resilient and the same is based on the factors below :(MVL Simulation, 2021).
Sociability: After conducting a test based on the situation and absorbing the preschool situation of Norah,which is seen that she had a few friends and she was quite self-confident in completing some social approaches are situations like any other child (MVL Simulation, 2021). Accordingly, she also was well versed in sharing her items with her social circle.
Activity: After conducting a survey on her situation, it is seen that Norah used to play a leadership role in the play activities during her preschool days and also showed keen interest in participating in different recreational activities.
No, I do not think that any such incident has occurred in Norah’s general environment that has and would have an impact on her life as she has always been brought up with the utmost love, care and affection. She has never had to struggle for anything and I have done my best as a parent to provide her with the best of everything.
According to Ainsworth's attachment styles, I feel that my child’s attachment to me is secure however the same with my partner can be classified as insecure-avoidant (Arnett & Jensen, 2019). The same can be attributed to my constant involvement with her life and activities while my partner normally stays busy and can only spend little time with her. Sometimes, the same can also be a cause of attributes beyond our control such as work pressure and prior commitments to work.
In accordance to Baumrind, I would describe my parenting style as “authoritative” as I ensure that my child maintains discipline and grows into it (Arnett & Jensen, 2019). However, I also believe that communication should be clearly maintained with the child according to her growth years and I do the same with Norah. I feel that my parenting style has been indirectly influenced by that of my parents as they followed the authoritarian method which at times made my childhood tough and I do not wish to do the same to my child.
According to her age and environment, I feel that Norah is adjusting to her social circle better than I expected her to be doing the same. Norah seemed to be unusually cooperative for a child of her age and just needed a few moments before befriending anyone ( MVL Simulation, 2021). Additionally, I would like to improve her sharing sentiment as I feel that is an essential social component. Plus, I do not think that Norah is having any emotional problems as such.
According to my observations on my child’s intelligence, I feel that Norah has shown considerable progress in the musical arena as by the 7thgrade, she had earned a place in the chorus and the band. Increasingly, she received an A after advancement to senior level. This shows that Norah has shown true promise towards music. However, my observations in regards to her performance in mathematics made me feel a bit worried as she is not showing the needed promise in the same. Although she has not brought in bad grades but I would still want her to excel in the same (MVL Simulation, 2021).
I would grade my child’s peer status as average as I understand that Norah takes a bit of a healthy time before making friendships with people and has learned the art of sharing over the years which makes her helpful and a good friend so this does not leave enough room to be rejected by her peers. I as of now do not have any worries in regards to her social skills.
In terms of identifying with a theoretical framework for making parenting decisions, I sync the most with that of “Piaget’s” as I understand how important timely cognitive development is and have always given it importance in terms of my child’s life (Arnett & Jensen, 2019).Additionally, I feel that Norah’s improvement in music is also due to the implementation of the same that made acquire the right milestones at the right time (MVL Simulation, 2021).
In terms of physical and behavioral signs of incipient puberty, the child showed signs of weight gain in the hips and growth in breast size. She has also begun showing signs of interest in the opposite sex. The thing that worries me at this point is if my child takes any such step without being mindful of the consequences of how that might affect her future. Additionally, I would prefer having a discussion related to reproductive health with my child as I want her to be able to explain everything fully. This way I feel that I can connect more with her.
My teen was a bit shook and nervous about attending school when several incidents regarding drugs took place in her school but I talked her well into it and explained that she had nothing to be afraid of but should rather be careful about such stuff (MVL Simulation, 2021).
In terms of differential susceptibility, I feel that my child is in the middle between a dandelion and an orchid as :
- She was nervous about attending school about the drugs incident and I had to talk to her regarding the same.
- She also had the sense to call me up after she drank too much on her night out.
