Introduction

Between 1929 and 1936, Mexican repatriation was mass deportation from the U.S. of Mexicans and Mexicans. Approximately 60% of those deported were U.S. people of the birthright. A series of informal raids in the USA during the Great Depression were named as the "repatriation drives" (Bernard, 1). According to former California Senator Joseph Dunn, local governments and authorities have deported up to 1.8 million immigrants to Mexico.

According to Diane Bernard's blog, hundreds gathered in La Placita Park in the Mexican city's heart on a sunny Sunday in Los Angeles. A large number of plainclothes officers entered the park, armed with guns and batons. Two officers were stationed at each entrance to La Placita to ensure that no one could leave. Hundreds of flatbed trucks have circled the park. According to Joseph Dunn, officers rounded up all brown-skinned people, a former California Democratic Senator who has investigated this little-known chapter in American history. Around 400 Park employers have been invited to show evidence of U.S. legal entry and citizenship.  Dunn reports that about 60% of the individuals are indeed American, many of whom are born in the U.S. to immigrants of the first generation. Deportation was not”repatriation" for these people but an exile from their country. Laws banning Mexicans' jobs were joined by the clamour to "get rid of the Mexicans!" The panic contributed to pandemics' repatriation, and one million Mexicans and their children were transported illegally to Mexico. This was the “Mexican problem”

In this climate, the Herbert Hoover Administration announced several deportation initiatives, and massive public raids in major cities began. These raids also swept Mexican civilians up. The Mexican immigrants and Mexican Americans were detained who were unable to provide sufficient documentation. Dunn said some were then put onto the trucks and sent to the central railway station in the area. They were once ordered on previously chartered trains and transported deep into Mexico, according to Dunn. The raid occurred during the Great Depression, shortly after President Herbert Hoover launched a nationwide "American jobs for true Americans" initiative — a code of words for "to get rid of people who were not regarded as "real" Americans," according to Dunn, whose staff spent three years investigating federal, state, and local records in the United States and Mexico to document the scandal.

According to Dunn, the Los Angeles City Council sent letters to the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors to suspend illegal deportations. "The fact that the board was tired of the memo and responded to the city council has little to do with constitutional legitimacy. It has to do with the colour of their skin. "According to Dunn, who has documents describing these events, Fear gripped Mexico's population in the early 1930s as local police forces rounded up residents, bordered them, and dumped them in parks, hospitals, markets, and social clubs. Apart from arguing that deporting Mexicans would lead to more jobs, officials also claimed that Mexicans overburdened welfare offices and charities during periods of economic distress.

Conclusion

The Americans maintained that Mexicans took American jobs and that they would have better Mexicans with their citizens. In the Great Depression, the United States was struck by a feeling of utter desperation. Americans looked for and found a convenient scapegoat in the Mexican culture. Although they were only 10% of the net recipients of relief aids, they mattered more to the economy.
