Answers:

What type of correlation was used:

It can be seen that the main objective of the topic selected is Correlation of biomechanics to tissue reaction in aortic aneurysms assessed by finite elements and [18F]–fluorodeoxyglucose–PET/CT (Maier et al., 2012). It has been desired to find out the effect of biomechanics to the tissue reactions in the aortic aneurysms assessed by the finite elements. Here multiple correlation has been used because there are more than two factors present in this topic (Maier et al., 2012). Therefore, it can be said that by using this kind of correlation here in this problem, it can be seen how the different factors were related to each other and from that a study can also be done about the relationship among them (Maier et al., 2012).

Why did the researcher use this statistic?

Correlation coefficient is a kind of study which tells the relationship between two or more variables. If there are only two variables under study, then it can be said that the correlation which has been used will be known as product moment correlation. If there are more than two variables and the correlation is measured, then that kind of correlation will be known as multiple correlation coefficient (Maier et al., 2012). In the case of multiple correlation, there is a correlation matrix and from this matrix, all the mutual values of the correlation coefficients of the variables may be obtained. As it is known that correlation coefficient is the most reliable measure to find the relation between the variables under study and from this study an extent of the regression analysis may also be obtained. That is why the research has used this measure to find the relation between the variables (Maier et al., 2012).

Conclusion

From the result of the study, it may be concluded that the variable under study mechanical stresses are correlated to FDG uptake in the AAA wall spatially and quantitatively. Therefore, the study of correlation in this context was kind of successful and the researcher obtained proper results to study further (Maier et al., 2012).
