Answer:-

“Shortage of Healthcare Staffs”

In the United States, shortage of physician, nurses and other healthcare workers has remained one of the major healthcare related problems since many years. According to evidences it has also been estimated that there would be a shortfall of almost 400,000 home health aides and 29,400 nurse practitioners by 2025. Other healthcare professions will face shortages as well (aamc.org., 2019). Considering the devastating situation like COVID- 19 pandemic, it can be anticipated that shortage of staffs in the healthcare organizations may lead to undesired outcomes and will also result into high mortality rate nationwide. Hence the issue of “Shortage of healthcare staffs” should be prioritized. In this paper, annotated bibliography will be presented in the context of healthcare professionals’ shortage in the United States.

This research was conducted by four researchers who were from qualified academic background and they were also associated with different institutes of United States of America. The authors have set up the background of the research in a concise manner emphasizing on the role of the physicians in delivering healthcare services. Simultaneously, it was also indicated how aging of the US population, increased number of insured population and surge in growth of the population have contributed to healthcare demand nationwide. The ability of the authors to concisely represent the problem to the audience with excellent choice of words and statistical data can be considered as its strength. Use of colourful figures to explain the result and severity of the issue is another remarkable aspect of this article that should be mentioned. References which were used in this article were published in between the timeframe of 2005- 2020. Hence it can be understood that it is based on current evidences and facts and this also contributes to greater acceptability of the article in this particular area of reperch. It has a provided a comprehensive conclusion by stating that in 2030, there will be a physician labour shortfall across the country. The findings of this research will be used to examine effective and efficient solutions to address the rising scarcity in the coming decades and fulfil current and future population demands. Hence in order to address the issue of shortage in healthcare workers, the contribution of this article is significant.

Haddad, L. M., Annamaraju, P., & Toney-Butler, T. J. (2020). Nursing shortage. StatPearls [Internet]. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK493175/

This book has been written by the authors who were medical professionals and thus it can be expected that they were the best persons to have a great understanding of the real scenario of nursing shortage due to their direct connection with this field. While critiquing this particular source of evidence, it has to be mentioned that the representation and description of the healthcare issue (i.e. shortage of nursing staffs) have been in such a convenient way that is understandable even for new learners. The authors have used simple language and also used a wide range of references to signify the gravity of the issue.  Issues of concern mentioned in this book included aging population, aging work force, nurse burnout, career and family, violence in the healthcare setting, growth and also regions and areas of the United States. Similar issues were mentioned as underlying causes of nursing shortage in the other evidences as well (Marć et al., 2019). Hence it can be considered that the authors have delved into the topic to find out relevant causes and thus reliability of the data can be ensured. Evidence- based is also supported in this book and this is evident through inclusion of a wide range of references throughout the chapter. Clinical significance of the nursing shortage has also been discussed at the end of this chapter and thus it can be recognised as an excellent piece of evidence to develop an understanding of the crisis and its potential impact in the healthcare system. The authors have also recommended interventions to resolve the issue and these can be helpful in mitigating the shortage of nurses in the healthcare industry as well.

This article can be found as the one of the current sources of evidences for chosen topic since it based on the perspective of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. The authors have collected data from 11,920 free-standing nursing homes of United states and this can be considered as a huge amount of data which is expected to generate a bias- free result. Self- reported information from staff shortage was obtained through survey led by Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Detailed information and presentation of the results in numerical figures can be considered as strength of this paper and these have also contributed to better understanding of the scenario. While most of the articles relevant to this topic either focussed on nursing shortage or physician shortage, this article has indicated shortage percentage of overall workforce including licensed nurse staff, clinical staff, non- clinical staffs, nurse aides and thus can be considered extremely important in the field of research.
