| ES | DUR | EF |
| Title of The Task | ||
| LS | TF | LF |
The ES in the network diagram depicts the early start, while the EF refers to the early finish of the activities in the project. The DUR refers to the duration of each activity. Additionally, the LS stands for last finish, TF refers to total float and the LF refers to the late finish of the activities (Bondarenko et al. 2018). The network diagram clearly depicts all these six elements for each of the activities in the project.
The network diagram is an essential part for the project, as it tends to explain the time estimation of the project activities (Soe and Htike 2018). Additionally, the network diagram helps to illustrate the activities of the project by interrelating the tasks with each other from the start of the project until the completion. The network diagram also helps in planning, organizing as well as controlling the schedule of the project. As all the activities of the project are sequentially located therefore, it is very much easy for the project manager as well as the project team in organizing and planning the project in a systematic way (Lee et al. 2018). Additionally, the network diagram proves to be efficient during the process of project execution as all the activities are clearly depicted as per the dependencies of each task.
The network diagram depicts the workflow of the activities of project. Therefore, it is essential for the manager of the project to learn the sequence of the activities of the project. Additionally, in the middle of the execution of project, the network diagram will help in understanding the remaining project, as it is simpler to analyse the remaining activities of the project due to the interdependencies depicted. The network diagram depicts the possibility of compressing a schedule in a project. During the execution of the project, there might be a need to decrease the duration of the remaining project activities, which gets easier with the help of network diagram. At the time of compressing the activities if the project, the network diagram helps in sequencing the activities as well as the project durations and further benefits the manager of the project in compressing the remaining project activities, which needs to be shortened. Additionally, the network diagram depicts the progress of the project (Bond-Barnard, Fletcher and Steyn 2018). As the network diagram displays the activities within the project along with the complete project duration as well as the start and finish date of each activities, therefore the network diagram are considered as the best instrument for determining the progress of the project in project management.
Therefore, it is essential for the manager of the project for utilizing the network diagram for analysing, which activities of the project must be completed on the estimated time and also the activities, which have additional time for completion.
