I am a fully qualified nurse who is registered by the Graduate Program. I have had an experience over the past two years serving as an assistant occupation therapist at the Brisbane People’s HealthCare Centre.

I am a passionate individual who values the well-being of my patients at whatever circumstances they come. I have successfully performed this duty over the time I was serving at Brisbane and came out the patients’ favourite nurse. I am a flexible individual who takes positively any form of learning as long as it is aimed at everyone’s well-being. I understand that learning is a continuous process and so will be willing to accept more skill development lessons for it will help me and the patients at the end of the day.

Selection Criteria 1: A patient focused approach to care

Organizational management skills are necessary when trying to develop a patient focused approach. Planning for everything I do is much important because it enables me to develop a strong organizational skill. Being organized makes me comfortable and ready to attend to my patients without any panic. The skills that I developed during my time as an intern have played major roles in my development for this course. Just as I was motivated by my seniors when I was a beginner, I am now at a position to also help new healthcare assistants to also help them achieve their career goals. This was made possible through positive communication skills that I frequently got from my mentors. I developed an attitude that lets me put the patients’ welfare ahead.  This patient centered focus are necessary to the patients who entrusts their lives with us, the health practitioners. Having developed the skills, I will always take the responsibility to engage the patients, their families and other colleagues on matters to do with their health. This is a reflection of the Nursing Standard One: Critical Thinker and analyses nursing practice.

Selection Criteria 2: A positive approach to ongoing self-education and skill development

I am a third year student in the school of nursing and to this far, I have made several steps as far as skill development is concerned. My career development journey has so far been an all-round procedure. Whatever gains I have made are going to help me in my career life and improve my service delivery. I have also taken a short training on leadership development program which has equipped me with valuable skills. The skills are necessary in approaching the various organizational issues and get effective solutions to them.

In addition, I took other short courses both in counselling and in aged care which I trust is necessary understanding the patient experiences. It is also necessary in giving analysis from different perspectives to offer solutions and bring better outcomes. This is a reflection of the third nursing standard: Maintain the Practice Capability.

Selection Criteria 3: A flexible, innovative team-oriented approach to service delivery

I am a good team player and even during my internship I participated in several team activities aimed at making better the healthcare services in the facility I was in. One key thing that I learnt during my internship was the fact that, teamwork makes it possible to solve various challenges that may erupt in the working environment. I managed to work with different specialists from high level to low level and learnt from all of them. I therefore look forward to build a strong association with the rest of the team as we aim at improving the services we offer in order to improve the outcomes of healthcare. This is a reflection of the nursing standard two: Engages in Therapeutic and professional relationship.

Selection Criteria 4: A positive approach to change and diversity

Change is part and parcel of life of any institution and thus same case as in a professional and career development. Working in different environments makes you interact with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds. The changes that we encounter make during these moments are necessary because they make us develop new skills that can help us get solutions to other challenges that we can face in future. As I interact with different patients, I learn so much from them especially their beliefs, and even attitudes towards healthcare. As an intern in my previous work at a hospital, I managed to interact with people from different cultures and races. The experience was one of the greatest because we perfectly complimented each other. My interactions with the patients also was based and we became friends with majority of the patients who became long term friends.  It is in order to give value to everyone and their perception as it is a way of building one another. This is a reflection of Standard Six Nursing: Provide Safe, Appropriate and Responsive Quality practice in nursing.

My Achievements on Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA)

This organization plays the roles set by the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law. Its main role is offer protection to the public which it performs through regulating the practices offered by nurses and midwives in Australia. As a student nurse, I underwent a few orientations that let me into achieving the 7 NMBA standards.

Specific Requirement and Qualification

I am an occupational therapist who is registered with Australia Health Practitioners Regulatory Agency having successfully undergone my internship.  I am specialized in treating patients that are disabled, those who have suffered injuries that require the use of special equipment. I am licenced by the government under the health docket to serve.

Professional Practice

While in my internship training after my graduation, I learnt about how to operate within my lane of duty and understands fully my roles. Sometimes addressing the patients can be a challenge but with the little knowledge and experience I have, I am able to appropriately respond to the unsafe practices that I might encounter along my line of duty.

Critical Thinking and Analysis

I am a critical thinker who can find out solutions to the most challenging situations that erupt. As a team player, I support the development of others, and allow others to guide me in my weakness areas. Even after my qualification, I still undergo trainings mostly through personal studies.

As an occupation therapist, I plan and evaluate nursing care to the patients. I also offer harmless and real nursing care in order to achieve fully effective health outcomes to the patients that I will be assigned to look after.

As a therapist, some other roles that I will perform include launching, upholding and concluding a relationship that recognizes my boundaries of the duties I perform. Along my line of duty, I will need to be sensitive enough to the cultural, psychological, and spiritual stands of various patients and colleagues that I interact with mostly.

As a health practitioner, time management is a key requirement because all I deal with are the lives of people. I also need good communications skills as well as the ability to go diverse in my practices.
