Introduction

I did the practical placement at Risdon Vale Neighbourhood Centre. The first time when I came across the coordinator, I felt that the place was quite formal and it was difficult to pass the assessment. The building of the Risdon Vale Neighbourhood Centre sits at the centre of the suburb. However, the conception, which I had about the coordinator, was wrong. Her name was Ann and she was very friendly and open-minded. She helped me to get involved in her community. For example, every Tuesday morning, they had Pingo and some young mothers used to bring their children. I looked after the little children; however, I found it difficult to remember their names and the names of their mother.  Until now, I could not remember their name and I thought that it was my weakness that I was trying to remember their name by recollecting their face. She also gave me a job in which I had to make newsletter term 2 as well as fixing the booklet. The next day we had a Rose bay high school student’s café, however, I found that 27 students were not willing to go to the school.

Later, Ann told me that those 27 students would come to the café every time they feel of not going to the school. When I asked the reason, Ann told me that one of the children was from a domestic family and that the child was abused as well as bullied at the school because her parents were uneducated as well as unemployed. Whenever I met the high school students, I found that they used to avoid me and used to ignore my questions. Whenever I asked them “Do you need a hand?”, they used to ignore my questions. At that point, of time, I found it difficult to build the relationship with them and I used to feel isolated. However, I tried my best to build my relation with them. One day I got an idea about rewarding the students who is performing well. As a result, I went up to Ann and told her about my decision. In turn, Ann replied that since it is a non-profit organization they do not have enough fund to give rewards to the good students. However, I did not stop thinking about the reward fact and tried my best to give a solution so that the high school students start going to the school. However, I firmly believe that though I have a good listening as well as good at computer but I do not possess a good communication skill and that is the reason I feel shy while meeting with new people. However, after coming in this workplace I am gaining the confidence to interact with the people. This placement has helped a lot to learn about the way to converse with the new people.

Conclusion

Though I am good at listening, I am not that good at communication. There are many grammatical errors, which I made, and sentence errors. However, with the help of this organization I will be able to overcome the problem.
