In the given case study, the process of Online Back-to school ordering system has been developed in order to provide the parents with essential necessities for their children for academic purposes. They provide a system which help the parents to order essentials for children such as text books and note books, pens, pencils, erasers and many more. These necessities are provided with the help of online ordering system.  This system consists of various pages where parents need to fill up the data regarding the commodities they need for the number of children and then they pay through online payment system or by cash on delivery. They can also choose if they want their order to get delivered at their doorstep or they want to pick it up by themselves. This system requires numerous activities and a huge amount of information has to be stored in their system. This system requires an adaptive system development for making their work easy. This essay discusses regarding the methodologies of adaptive systems development.

The process of using information system for various purposes has made numerous organizations face difficulties. These difficulties have led in introduction of advanced systems development. In order to design as well as develop an information system, a methodological approach is very important. This methodological approach would help in meeting the time against human and physical constraints.

Methodologies of adaptive development

Some methodologies that can be utilized for adaptive development are as follows

System prototyping: this development methodology is very suitable for applications or systems that are not very complex. This development methodology does not involve much number of analytics. The missing functionality in the systems is identified very easily in this system. The application is enabled to implement faster compared to other applications.

This methodology can be used in the case study for implementing the processes in a systematic manner. In the figure provided above it can be seen that the overall process is shown in a systematic manner. For example at first the requirements of the system are analysed, after that, the designing if the system is done. Then comes the implementation of the system. After the implementation is over the overall system is tested. When the testing is over and successful, the system is operated. This methodology would not let any confusion in the overall process.

This methodology has been introduced to reduce the time consumed by the design stage. It also increases the efficiency of that particular stage. In this methodology, the manager and user as well as system analysts participates in various meetings. These meetings are held in order to design the inputs that would be used. Along with the inputs, outputs, screens and data re also required by the new system. The purpose of this methodology is to identify the executive goal of the system and the stakeholders involved in it. The sessions are scheduled according to the necessary of the users. The only problem in this methodology is that it requires all the various bodies of the organization like executive and stakeholders at the same time for a long time which is not usually possible. Implementation of Joint Application design would be successful only if it Ied by a facilitator who well trained. A trained facilitator would be able to keep the discussion in a particular direction. This methodology can be utilized in order to make a better design of the process used by Gerry and Rebecca in the process of Online Back-to school ordering system.

Rapid application design

Rapid application design is a development methodology that gives tools for advanced development. It also provides pre built collaboration tools and objects. The tools include computer aided software engineering, interfaces builder of graphical users and various techniques that are object oriented. The main aim of this methodology is to target various steps that have the chances to overlap and can be performed by numerous teams. It would be successful at producing numerous applications. This methodology is very suitable at the projects in which the functionality of system is very clearly visible as well as the project has to be of a small or medium scale. This methodology is of very short duration.

This methodology has various advantages, they are, this methodology is helpful in saving cost, time as well as human effort. It maintains a perfect fit between the system specification and the requirements of the users. It enables the system to change the design of the system according to the demands of the users.

Among all the methodologies, the system prototyping is most useful for the given case study. This is because the users would have more choices for providing feedbacks. The system would be very easy to change. Suppose the professionals want to make changes in their activities under their working schedule, this methodology would make it easier for them. This methodology would also help in identifying a function that is missing and this would make their work easier because loop holes would be identified as well as rectified very easily.

Recommendations:

The methodologies have its uses in different structures depending upon the organisation and hence, it is recommended that before the adoption of the discussed methodology the project team should asses the complexity and viability of the selected organisation

The organisation is tackling some issues that needs attention and as part of the solution the development and deployment of the UCD based HCI system has been proposed. It will mitigate the manual challenges of the organisation that are associated with the information and other necessary operations of the organisation. The proposal also deems attentions that the system should be limited as a solution for the challenges rather should also act as a chance of technological advancement that would assist the organisations operations.

The expected result on deployment of the system is that it will enhance the organisation’s operations through automation and in the process offering an efficient and effective mode of operations. Additionally, the workload over the organisational stakeholders will also be mitigated through the adoption of the system. The system is even expected to offer its assistance in the CRM (customer relationship management). The CRM can be maintained by receiving feedback which should be an integral part of the system. Additionally, improvements can also be attached to the system depending upon the need of organisation.
