Introduction

Database modelling is an efficient process through which all the database requirements are captured and designed to come up with a fully functional database that meets all the business requirements. In this task, we shall come up with a case scenario from which we shall model a database from. We shall model our database at a conceptual and logical model level.

Case Scenario

Britam Dispensary is a fictious clinic that provides out patient services to its patients. The dispensary consists of a number of physicians who offer treatment to the patients after a successful diagnosis. The patients later proceed to make their payments to the account’s office based on the bills incurred. The dispensary therefore wishes to build a database that will be able to manage the physician’s details, patient details, patient health records and financial records.

In this assignment, we shall model a database for Britam Dispensary at the conceptual and logical level. At the conceptual level, we shall model the database using the Entity Relationship Diagram using the Crow’s Foot Notation While at the Logical level, we shall come up with a set of database.

Business Rules

The following are the business rules that will guide the design of the database (Chowdhary, 2018):

1. A physician diagnoses one or many patients while a patient is diagnosed by one or many physicians.
2. An ailment has many patients diagnosed for it.
3. A physician treats many patients.
4. A physician   prescribes many medications for patients.
5. A patient incurs many bills.
6. A diagnosis is part of one and only one patient bill.
7. A treatment is part of one and only one patient bill.
8. A medication is part of one and only one patient bill.
