Introduction:

Reflection may be defined in its most basic form, reflective practise is simply thinking about or focusing about what you do. It is associated with the idea of learning through experience in that you consider what you learned and what occurred and determine what can be done differently next time. It assist in developing ideas and understanding the theories and apply it in future appropriately (Wain, 2017).  This report is based on analysis of the classroom learning and express the knowledge, concept and idea gained from it. The learning acquired will allow me to build and carve my skill and knowledge for apply it in my career prospects successfully. By developing a reflection of learning, I can focus on the leaning process and identify my merits and demerits. This identification will enable me to overcome the barrier in my learning process and achieve the desired result.

Discussion:

The course “information policy and governance” upon which my reflection will provide me to identify learning experience with it. As per my learning and understanding of the course the term "information policy" refers to how an organization handles the information and knowledge that it requires to reach an audience, along with the kinds of information provided and the methods of dissemination. For any organisation, information is extremely essential and of great importance. In specific, information is classified as “data or facts about something” as well as “the transmission or receipt of understanding or competence.” It may exist in a variety of formats, but it must have significance in some way for the recipient. I came to learnt that that information governance refer to the decision-making and transparency mechanism placed in order to ensure that development, storage, usage, transmission, archiving, and deletion of information is done in compliance with applicable laws and to maximise operational performance (Wardle, & Derakhshan, 2017). It consists of activities, functions, policies, and principles that ensure the legal and efficient use of information in facilitating the accomplishment of organisational goal and objective. While attending the lecture in classroom learning, I identified the importance of information governance, it improves access to the information for those that need it, which is critical for any organisation (Rymes, 2015). Bad information asset organisation and management impact organisations of all shapes and sizes, resulting in issues such as usability, simplicity of use, timeliness, and protection, all of which governance can help with.  By reading the course further it made me comprehend that, information governance is a comprehensive approach to managing organisational data that includes the implementation of procedures, responsibilities, controls, and indicators that treat data as an important business resource. Company devise their information policies on the basis of the business they are in.

The best way of learning which enabled me to comprehend the course properly involved that I use to read various organisations case studies that implement information policy and governance. My professor used to demonstrate the best examples of the companies who are an efficient practitioners of information policy and it governance (Babadjanova, 2020). Another factor that contributed to my learning method is that I used to discuss and teach what I have learnt to my fellow classmate in this way the concept were rooted in my mind. I always used to take and note down the point which my faculty emphasised on. I learnt that there are numerous factors that organisations consider that affect an organization’s overall information policies. The sensitive existence of information inside the enterprise is an essential factor for companies when deciding their information policy. When developing an information policy, business leaders consider the image they want their business to project to the public. All these concepts was learned by me in the classroom learning.

Because of self-created barriers or self-limiting attitudes about learning, individuals can be their own worst enemies (Hinett, 2015). Here were quite few obstacles for me in my path of learning that often prevented me to learn effectively and learn the complexities of the course efficiently. Though the course was an interesting to learn and many term and fact in the course were unknown and new to me. At times, lack of motivation to study overruled my mind. Frequently, I was extremely demotivated to read and complete the course. Most of the days, numerous other projects related to other subjects piled up back to back which made me unfocused. The text-based formats of the courses were little boring for me to study and comprehend the actual learning of the course material. Overcoming these barriers were extremely important for me because it was the major hindrance in the completion of the course. I started meditation and listening to soothing podcast to make myself motivated in my studies and continue to learn with the same pace. I started watching course in the video format to avoid the boredom due to the text format of the course.

Due to reading various case studies on information policies and governance, allowed me to explore different aspect of this course, one such is stakeholders and their role in the policy process. Stakeholders are the group of people who are directly or indirectly influenced and associated by the organization (Helyer, 2015). Many examples come to mind when we think of stakeholders, but shareholders, leaders, staff, labour unions, consumers, suppliers, and societies are among the most common. As per my learning, stakeholders play an important role in the information policy of the company. Stakeholders can support or oppose decisions, and they can have a lot of power in the company or in the society where they operate.

Learning techniques are important aspects that rules your learning. It allowed to adopt different techniques and methods in order to learn the course. Instead of memorizing and mugging up the theories and concepts of the course I used mind-mapping technique to comprehend the concepts of the course (Pugsee, 2017). I fixed a proper schedule for my studies to engage myself regularly in the course without skipping a day. I adopted the method named SQ3R, This approach is a reading and comprehension technique that aids students in recognising key details and retaining knowledge from the curriculum. It Stands For Survey, Question, Read, Recite and Review. I used to note the important points, formulate necessary questions from the points, reading entire chapter to find out the solutions of the questions formulated, after the reading process summary of what I have learned and remembering and recognising key points and finally after finishing the chapter, I review the material to understand it properly. I performed collaborative learning. By collaborative learning, I mean that I with few of my friends and classmates started learning in a group wherein we learnt to work together and exchange our ideas a learning with each other (Hmelo-Silver & Chinn, 2015). This particular technique enabled me to learn various topics and terms which were unknown to me earlier.  

Initially, in my previous semester I used to read the complete chapters and make notes of the points with no such importance while ignoring the significant one. I used to mug up the answers of the questions without comprehending its concepts and facts. This shift of learning technique allowed me to understand each and every aspects of the course efficiently.

Action plan

Improvement is a continuous process that needs to be performed every day. In order to improve my learning skills, that I will practice the study techniques that will enable me to study and learn better. I will adopt the practice of taking notes of the concepts that are extremely important for the curriculums. Also in order to gain the practical exposure that how companies perform information policy and governance, I will enrol myself in different online courses and other internship programme during my college to gain the insights about the information and policy governance in an organization. I will continue the collaborative learning with my fellow classmates as it will enable me to learn and operate in a team and hence it will be fruitful for my learning process.

Conclusion:

Finally, this insightful journal writing has aided me in improving the consistency of my learning through critical thinking, acknowledging my own learning process, and identifying the areas in which I lacked and how did I overcome those obstacles to facilitate the learning process without and further hindrances. The leaning techniques that I adopted in the semester allowed me to understand my leaning capability and what are the results that I gained due to the techniques. This journal helped me to identify that how different learning techniques have helped me in shifting the hard study to smart study. This reflective journal allowed me to understand that learning capability of an individual can be changed with correct techniques and practices. Consistency and regularity in learning process can make me achieve all the desired objectives. Students would be more effective in achieving the results if they recognise preparation, behaviours, motivation, challenges, and learning styles.
