Introduction

This project proposal will explore Content Delivery Networks and their application in the eHealth using mobile phones and tablets. The introductory section has been subdivided into several subsections. The first part is the background of the study, the project problem statement, the third part is the research purpose, then research justification then finally the aims and objectives of the study.

Study background

Content delivery network makes general data and website accessibility over network faster in amore efficient way that the consumer needs to register with the content delivery network providers such as Akamai so as their website can get hosted on content delivery network servers (Kim, Gu, and Heo, 2016). Whenever consumers need to get data and information from these sites, the content is available according to the server located near their geographical position that is generally measured using the hop counts of the fewer nodes between the server and the consumer (Azeta, Bolu, Abioye, and Oyawale, 2017). Content delivery networks also gives some level of protection from the Denial of Server (DOS) issues since there is a high number of distributed servers used in servicing the client base incase the servers close to them are not functioning properly. So as to improve the security of content delivery network also apply the peer to peer where the server nodes can assume any given role of both the server and the client so as to enable data sharing process, enhance data security in a way that the nodes of this peer group are not able to acquire the available resources. This is a useful thing since the system will be designed that the patients only have the capability of making medical records available to their authorization.

The exponential growth of mobile phones and tablet supporting content delivery network cannot be overlooked. According to report by the United Nation, more than 6 billion people (80%) of the world’s population have mobile phones (Butter et al 2008). This shows a large number of people that are able to access the internet.

Problem statement

Chad as compared to other African countries and other developing countries around the world has not exploited the evolution and growth of mobile device technology so as to solve various challenges faced by her population especially in the health sector. Currently, doctors in the country are using social media such as Facebook to reach their patients which is very tiring process as most of the patients have challenges accessing the social media platforms. Despite gaining independence more than 50 years ago, the country is even still unable to find obtain healthcare statistical data. Collection of healthcare data is done manually by having public health officers and other medical personnel move around homes collecting data. This is challenging in the manner that chance of error commitment is very high and report generation takes time since the collected data will be sent to one place before analysis is done.

Research questions

The research questions for this research include;

What are the healthcare requirements in Chad, having a relatively large number of marginalized communities, do they feel the need to get formal healthcare?

What are the system requirement that will ensure efficiency of the mobile application?

Can the application be used in remote areas where the network coverage is minimal?

Project aims

The following are the aims of this research;

To design and develop a mobile based application system with the main aim improving healthcare delivery in Chad

Be able to integrate with the new application system various tools that will help in doing day to day activities such as inclusion of body mass indicators, the find my doctor application, pregnancy testing and determination of the pregnancy due date and other similar tools

Project objectives

The mobile application will be designed to give an easier and simple platform to use between the patients and the medical doctors taking advantage of various application and system design concepts where the user is not very much concerned about how the systems works and will be able to carry out various functionalities of making updates to the SQLite database on how they are feeling. The mobile application will be able to conduct a mobile syndicate with the NHS database to obtain latest information regarding a given health situation and condition.

Integrating the ‘find my doctor’ functionality in the mobile application will help the integration of GPS capabilities into the mobile device. Most android platforms in the market provide this feature freely using the Google Maps feature where various locations and regions are mapped as coordinates and can be located using the satellite.

Creation of both the server side and the client side and utilize the website services to do data transfer communication for the healthcare practitioners to be able to read, interpret and write to the system database to get the necessary information about the required drug  and place the required orders.

Chapter conclusion

This chapter has covered the background of the study and highlighted the problems that have led to the need of this study. The chapter has also presented a number of healthcare challenges the country is facing and the wide gap that exists between the doctor to patient relationship and the limited expertise about health in the country.

Methodology

This chapter describes the methodology adopted in this research. The geographical area where the research was conducted, the design of the study and the sample of the population used are clearly discussed in this section. Also, the data collection instruments were also described.

Research design and approach

The study utilized a quantitative approach. According to Perenboom et al (2004), quantitative research is an objective, formal and systematic process that is used in describing and testing relationships and other variables. surveys can be applied for the exploratory, explanatory and descriptive studies. In this study, a descriptive methodology approach was adopted. Collection of data was done through surveys.

Ethical issues

In the implementation of CDN, we find several issues such as legal issues, social issues as well as ethical issues. In the below part we discuss some possible issues in this process.

Privacy Issues: The robots or the nursing assistants in the healthcare can easily manage the work schedule and helps the doctors in various purposes as well as can communicate well. However, it creates violence in the privacy system of patients’ secure data.

Dignity Issues: The robots or the care providing assistance in the CDN does not allow any substitution of human in the service and they allow all the patients to interact with the human being in the planned occasion (Riek, 2017).

Employment Issues: CDN implementation causes high productivity in the healthcare system. That will reduce the requirement of human staff in the medical field. It creates high employments issues.

Implementation Issues: In the project, we can face some implementation issues concerning the ethical committee issues. We can face difficulties to get the approval report for implementing government. Therefore, the risks and issues need to be analysed and produce good planning for achieving success in this project.
