Opaque Glass Ceiling Stealing the Rainbow of Discovery Caused by “Magic of Light”

Hi, this is Gunjan Tyagi, I am a research hand pursuing my quest in a multi-disciplinary environment where consistent skill enhancement is the need of the hour.  While describing my goals and ambitions in life, I can say that for me “Physics is Philosophy” and I am exploring the “magic of light” to support a greater cause for humanity by serving the field of cure and diagnostic.

My current mission of life is to explore “the magic of light” with the help of “High-Resolution Raman spectroscopic imaging” of various stages of cancer cells. An evidence-based breakthrough in this field will facilitate “Raman imaging of cells” for interacting with cells, Tissues, and various body fluids. This interaction will be intended to detect and diagnose crucial information. Currently, I am working on a mission to utilizing techniques like “simple optical microscopy” and “confocal microscopy” to corroborate the results of spectroscopic imaging.

It is a tough path ahead of me because of The multidisciplinary nature of my research, I have a strong background in Physics and now I need funding for getting training in chemical synthesis from laboratories with knowledge in the field of antimicrobial surface treatments that are not my core skills.

My current job position introduces me under the capacity of a “Research Associate, Department of Chemical Engineering, and Imperial College London”.  With due respect to the present institute and my post I would like to state that this post is not offering me avenues where I can pursue my existing goals, I need an advanced and scientifically evolved culture to practice my skills and experiment under able guides. I want to move ahead with some dedicated pursuits to explore a connection between two diverse sets of knowledge; it needs a place where the practice of “advanced” and “state of the art” techniques is an order of the day. I am seeking a fellowship to sustain myself on this path a fellowship can also provide a worry-free baseline for me.

While writing this personal statement under the capacity of a scientist seeking to achieve a breakthrough discovery or “evidence-based practice”, I can state that my journey is receiving abrupt halts because of the prevailing “glass ceiling”.  

When I cast a glance at my previous stints, I find that I am a victim of the glass ceiling.  I feel the first pang of the glass ceiling a few years ago when I got pregnant at an optimum time designed by my biological clock. This new status changed the perspective of people towards me because I have not been given sufficient opportunities to carry out necessary experiments.  It was a tough phase, still, the “never say die” attitude clubbed together with the “scientific temperament” always acted as a guiding light for me.  It was a tough phase of my life when I played the dual role of a mother and a scientist pursuing a goal that demands her to move on an unbeaten track.

I am optimistic that your organization will provide me a “glass ceiling free eco-system” and “sufficient means” for livelihood in the form of a “Fellow-ship”. I am seeking this association for another substantial reason; one of the biggest barriers to achieving a truly interdisciplinary research aim is the necessity for collaboration of educators. Dedicated time and cost of running experiments are to be covered which are not available as a post-doc. An association with your prestigious organization and the onset of the fellowship will help me in pursuing my goal to serve the greater interests of society in a better way.
