I am a network administrator in a company named Dream English. In my workplace, my colleagues are cooperative to a limited extent as there is competition between all to get promotions.

I can relate to the learning from Module 1 about the importance of SFIA Generic skills to deliver the best performance to get promotions by beating workplace competitors. Identifying the responsibility levels and developing skills can help to enhance individual productivity at the workplace (Levels of responsibility, 2021).  

I have considered several factors for identifying the level of responsibility of SFIA Generic skills. Firstly, I have reviewed and understood these responsibility levels then, I have read the generic descriptions and noticed differences between responsibilities from levels 1 to 3. After that, I have started recognizing levels that match with my current responsibility levels and expectation from my current job role as a network administrator.

The skills activities of SFIA have helped me to understand my roles and expectation of my organization from me. On the other hand, it has helped me to learn how to excel in my job role. I have also learned about the ways of avoiding mistakes. As a result, I am excelling at my workplace by serving the best performance. It can also help me to get a promotion before my colleagues based on my skills and abilities.

Reflection 

I have seen behavioural differences during communication between employees of different cultures. For example, during a meeting, an employee came directly to the point while other staff members expected a small talk before that. I have also faced challenges regarding body language during communication. In my culture during communication standing close is expected while in other cultures giving space is mandatory.

Recently, I have read an interesting article in Cisco blogs. This article elaborates on the need for connected experiences delivered through the help of connected devices (Kjesbu, 2021). This innovation is helpful for a dispersed workforce providing a connected experience.

I have also attended an event that is related to careers in information technology. This event has helped me to understand the responsibilities of a network administrator that can help me in my future professional career.

I have also attended an interview in 2XM technology Pty Ltd, which exposed me to a professional environment. I faced different technical questions such as what is the necessity of capacity management of network environments in a firm.

However, I need more assistance from my tutor regarding the topic of “Challenges faced by next-generation network administrators”. Enhancing knowledge on this topic can help me to predict risk properly and mitigate those challenges to gain professional excellence.
