• According to me, the masquerade ball is an expression of the ignorance of the prince. The lavish ball that is held within the walls of the castle represents that how Prince Prospero was complete coward and selfish as when his dominion needed him the most, he has closed the doors of the castle and enjoyed pom and pleasure. I also feel that the ball was an escape route for the prince and the nobles to the fight of the constant fear and that has prevailed outside the walls of the castle. The ball helped the nobles to enjoy and keep their morals high even in the dire situations like Red Death.
• Red death was dreaded because of the devastation it had caused. As per the text there had been no pestilence as dead and as horrific as this. This disease has claimed many lives across the land within a very short period of time.

The symptoms and the effects of the disease was considered as sinister. As stated by the author “Blood is the avatar and blood are the seal of the disease.”  The person contracting the disease would suffer from unimaginable pain, dizziness and profuse bleeding from all pores of the body and as it progressed it would lead to death within half an hour. The most sinister part of red death is the satins of blood on body of the victim.

• Prince Prospero upon finding the uninvited guest was of disgust and anger as he had found the dress and the mask of the undivided guest very offensive as he considered that death in no way could be part of jests and he felt that the costume was very disrespectful of people’s emotion.

The initial reaction of the prince was same as the others in the court that is fear and confusion, which latter changed into anger and shame. The shame came out of the guilt that prince felt for being scared.

• The Seventh room is in particular had a very dark hue with everything in black colour. The  room unlike other rooms in the hall did not have an complementing window glass  rather the windows of  the  room  was  painted  with blood red colour and the light  passing  through them made the room look  ghastly  discouraging  people from entering it. The eerie look of the room is a representation of death itself.

The old clock in the room was added with the  eerie environment of the room is the metaphorical representation of  death and the clock represents the time  everyone has left because during the ball when the clock rang it  was a metaphorical indication  that everyone’s time has  come to an end.

• The uninvited guest was the literal representation of red death and the pain it has caused. The prince being the part of the royal family and the protector of the land wanted to kill the guest in order to symbolise his victory over the pestilence. The killing of the shrouded figure would show the guests present withing the castle that prince was able to overcome Red Death.

Poe has used excellent imagery to represent the hopelessness of the prince by showing is journey through the seven different coloured rooms. Each of the room was the metaphor for each value and important things in life. Therefore, passing through each room but unable to catch the stranger represented that he was unable to use any thing to stop death until they reached the seventh room which was the domain of death itself suggesting that all the hopes are lost for the prince.

• Poe had already prepared for this ending by initially suggesting the seventh room and by describing the great power of red death. The representation of the sinister room in the castle only suggested that something ghastly was about to happen within the walls of the castle. The next thing is the loud chiming of the clock which pointed to some grave changes that might occur in the story. Poe had cleverly  hidden clues and details  for the reader throughout the story to understand and predict the grave  ending throughout the story.
• The story if explained in the current scenario then we would find that most of people would act quite opposite to how the  Prince and the nobles reacted. The current global pandemic is the live example on who would people come together to fight of epidemic or pandemic. However, there are still a section of people who would act selfishly and think only about themselves during an epidemic.

The financial status of people would provide some advantage to  people during the initial phase of the epidemic. But as the situation turns grave not even money could help the people to avail all the resources such as during the Covid 19 pandemic where money or status could not  ensure proper treatment.
