With the increase of the internet there has been rapid growth and change in the way of communication, business and learning. Learning, with a new twist has changed the whole scenario of traditional classroom and has made education more accessible than before. Online education states to the learning conducted through technology wherein the teaching and assessment is facilitated through internet. It is an electronically accessible, which takes place through internet, and a flexible method of learning. (Hoi et al. 2018) It gives an opportunity to the educators to reach learners who may not be able to register in a traditional classroom course and enable the students to learn on their own schedule and comfort. In present world, online education is accepted worldwide.

Traditional learning refers to the face-to-face and conventional way of education that involves the direct exchange of instruction and lectures between the teacher and the learner in a proper classroom setting where the students’ study/learn through observation and listening. It incorporates the direct interaction between the teacher and student without any means of technology. (Tawafak et al.2019)

Effectiveness of online education can be determined by many factors. It is a cost-effective method as it saves the cost incurred on commuting, maintenance of classroom and is affordable in comparison to the tuition fee of proper classroom learning.  Many Online courses provide digital based study materials which minimizes the cost of text books. Online education can be effective means in combating the increasing fee of higher education. Professionals and working individuals can enrol to online courses and can continue their studies while allowing them to enjoy the flexibility of balancing work, study and other responsibilities.

Increases the access to education and training as a matter of fairness, allows everyone to take part in this advanced learning pedagogy removing the barriers of age and allows to learn and collaborate with the skilled and expert instructors worldwide.to take part.

In an organisational context, provides an opportunity for upgrading the skills of the workforce by providing them information and learning material on technological change taking place all over the world. It opens up a new market for the potential higher education institutions to carry on their teaching methods and earn via online method without spending much on the infrastructure. (Dumford and Miller 2018) People of shy personality and of introvert nature often find it difficult to interact with the teachers in the physical classroom and their participation in online education can be beneficial for their hassle- free learning.

Online-education is easily accessible by the individuals with disabilities, who live in remote areas, facing legal challenges with an electronic device and high-speed internet. It allows the learners to learn at their own pace, their own time and own personal space. Learners can acquire time management skills; personal study discipline can be more effective. It allows the user to carve and increase their technical skills. (Gilbert 2015)

Online course may replace the traditional approach of learning in following ways:

Online learning is flexible in comparison to traditional classroom. Since, the students do not need to be present in physical classroom within the reporting time. They can access the study materials as per their convenience this provides the flexibility to manage their class schedule and learn with their pace. On the other hand, traditional approach cannot be accessed by everyone, every time and has a fixed schedule and time.

Unlike traditional approach, online education provides an opportunity to the students to choose their own style of learning and gives an option to choose the most efficient form of learning. Option of customization is not available in traditional learning, wherein the teacher must complete the assigned syllabus within the time frame irrespective of student’s convenience. (Cummings et al. 2015)

The cost-effective factor of online learning can replace the traditional learning due to the cost is the factor which is considered majorly and reduction in this will attract many. It is cheaper which allows the learners to save their money by availing all the learnings which could have been very costly in traditional learning.

Though online learning offers many advantages but this can be said that online course will completely replace the traditional approach but they can go hand-in-hand because there are certain courses that cannot be conducted online. (Nguyen 2015) In-campus training provides a practical exposure that is not possible in digital learning. Also, not everyone is comfortable with technology and its functioning. The interpersonal interaction created in traditional classroom lacks in digital education which makes it inappropriate for all the courses.
