DD102 Introducing the Social Sciences

Introduction

I define myself as a hardworking, self-motivated student, employee, and constant volunteer. I strongly believe that I am passionate about any given duties, and I perform them with meticulous attention to detail. I constantly remind myself never to give up and learn and grow as much as I can, and that is why I have made it my mission to work every day to model myself into the final product that I desire. I also always strive to find and accommodate new interests and gifts such as being mature, having the best decision-making strategies, traveling, meeting new people, participating in diverse sporting activities, being punctual, and behaving responsibly.  My goal in life is to become a successful and accountable social worker to provide for myself and my family. Above all helps individuals, families, and even communities meet their basic needs and enhance their optimal health and social functioning. I greatly enjoy a challenging environment that motivates me to do my best, and that is why I display willingness and helpfulness when following all instructions and strive to work as a part of the team.

Currently, I am studying Health and Social Care BA (Hons) degree at the University of Bedfordshire. I am also working as a senior support worker. Which I believe demonstrates just how much I excel at prioritizing and being responsible while pursuing what I love. As per what I intend to achieve, I am currently on the right track and intend to keep doing better. My dream job is to become a good and competent social worker. This is mainly because I highly care for others, and I would like to help others adjust to their lives with ease, and that is why I make it a priority to reflect on my experiences, remember where I have come from, and where I have come from am going.

Job trends

Currently, I work as a senior support worker. This mainly entails supervising staff, encouraging and inspiring them to offer the highest support standards (George et al., 2017. 1006). I also administer medication, do routine checks, tarin, and introduce new staff. This has rendered me an individual with strong interpersonal and communication skills that help in inter-acting effectively with nurses, patients, medical staff, and all my relatives. I also curry some duties as a support worker, which entails supervising volunteers across many services while encouraging them to offer higher support standards. I also support and advise people on how to use their finances and resources.

Currently, I consider being a social worker as my ideal job. That is why I am passionately pursuing my degree in health and social work. I also consider being a social worker a privilege. I would very much like to help both individuals and families solve their problems. Social work involves a lot of duties. However, I think social work is most important because you get to help every individual, from a child to an older adult. Visiting these individuals and assessing their situations to provide them with the appropriate care, benefits, and resources are considered the best job. That is why I would be glad to work as a social worker.

Reflection of the skills that you have

Over the past 6years, I have worked incredibly hard to achieve the best that I could. I have done many work assessments, and I have discovered that I have always had a great passion for helping individuals. Throughout my work, I have realized what I can do and what I need to do in the future for me to attain my set goal. I have also concluded that all these experiences and skills that I have gained along the way all align with my interests. The first academic accomplishment that I believe aligns with my goal is my diploma in health sciences (Regmi and Jones, 2020). This diploma helped me gain great knowledge in biology, including the cardiopulmonary System, which I Passed incredibly. I also have great knowledge about disease and body defense, homeostasis for Healthcare, the Musculoskeletal System, and some modules on the title health units, (MacInnes et al, 2020). I also know safeguarding Children from Possible abuse, understanding health, well-being, understanding Health Promotion, and performance Mental Health (Daniel and Cross, 2018). This diploma also ensured that I gained incredible psychology skills, including abnormal psychology, criminological psychology, and social psychology. I also attained skills in social welfare, Poverty and Housing, Application of Numbers (calculation and Data Interpretation), and communications.

I am considerably competent with Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint, SPSS, SAGE, and SAP, making me well-versed technologically (Moro et al., 2017). On the other hand, I believe that I possess enhanced skills in working with people from diverse backgrounds and dealing with every individual professionally. I have enhanced my skills by working as an administrative assistant at Quill construction. As a care assistant, I have versed myself in administering medication, cleaning a client’s living area, and assisting with personal and day-to-day needs and skills (Autiero, 2021). I also possess great managerial skills and communication skills since I have worked over a year now as a senior support worker, which mainly entailed supervising staff encouraging and inspiring them to offer the highest standards of support (Redmond et al., 2018. 183)—administering medication, routine checks, training and inducting new staff as well as currying out same duties as a support worker.

Reflection of the skills you need to develop

 As part of achieving my set goals, I believe that gaining more knowledge is always best. That is why I believe that I need to develop skills in Frontline. This will mainly help me gain the skills and knowledge that I need to gain practical experience in social work (Edwards et al., 2020. 4). I also believe that I need practical skills of Step Up to Social Work and think ahead. This is also part of gaining practical experience in social work (Protheroe et al., 2017). I also believe that I have to gain better skills in commitment. This is mainly because social work requires follow-ups and visitations (Morrison and Rooney, 2017). That mostly requires commitment. Above all, I need to develop a stronger sense of patience. Patience can be hard to adapt to. However, I believe I will be able to adapt to it quickly. I also think that I have to gain flexibility, problem-solving skills, analytical skills, excellent communication skills, and the willingness to work with individuals from diverse walks of life.
