Baseball is widely known as a pure American game and once it was a centre of attraction as well as the greatest source of passing time among the African American and their other communities. The paper will continue with the fate of the African American back catchers of the sport. The paper will also throw light on the demotivation of the young African American people to play the sport due to the lack of baseball players from their community and finally will conclude.

Disconnection Between The African American And Baseball

A disconnection between the sport of baseball and the African Americas has been found from the last few decades. This disconnection started showing after the Loss of the Negro leagues. A lack of interest regarding baseball can be clearly seen on the young generation of the African Americans, whereas earlier, baseball was their only way of passing time and only source of their entertainment and attraction. According to the former baseball player Richardson, who was an African American player, the main reason behind the lagging of the African American youth in baseball is the lack of opportunities. The lack of money was another main problem for the youth to opt for playing the sport of baseball. (Spearman, L., et al. 2017)

When local leagues of the town used to take place, it was affordable for the African American youth to participate in the sport. But as the local leagues stopped and the elite leagues started to take place, it was no more possible for the African American players to participate in the sport. The African American community became victimized of racism and the elite teams then started to push back the players belonging to that particular community. (Coombs, A. 2019)

Fate Of The African American Back Catchers

African American back catchers is a breed that is going through a process of vanishing from this planet. Charles Johnson was the last African American man to get the best catcher position in baseball. In most of the matches, the catchers are supposed to buy their own gear whose price range starts from around $135. (Smith, C. 2021)

As mentioned previously, the African American were the victims of racism hence the kids who enjoy baseball have different role models and surprisingly none of them were African Americans. A study was conducted which produced a report that only 5% of 100 kids could name only 2 African American players. This is today’s sad reality where kids do not even know the names of the players belonging to the African American community. Parents should give good lessons to their children because discrimination is one of the reason behind the minimum number of African American catchers in the sport. (Constantino, R. 2021)

Most of the coaches presume stereotyped prospects of black skin colour too. Just because of the colour of the skin the African American players were back seated even after being good players. The African American catchers were the fastest among the pitch barring the others those who were slow after wearing the kit. This positive point also could not help the African American players to get rid of discrimination and stepping into the fields. (Anderson, S. M., et al. 2019)

Demotivation Of The Young African Americans

The African Americans are left behind after the loss of the Negro Leagues and the African American kids have also stopped showing interest and participating in the major leagues. A lack of interest regarding baseball can be clearly seen on the young generation of the African Americans, whereas earlier, baseball was their only way of passing time and only source of their entertainment and attraction.  Disparity continued with the African Americans players even after many steps that were taken to end the racial discrimination. This resulted in a thing that was very treacherous for the future of the African American baseball players. The kids who used to love the sport, started to take a back step from it. They could imagine that they could not play baseball as a professional player as they could see the discrimination that was taking place in front of their eyes that leads to their demotivation. (Markowitz, J. S. 2019)

The rising prices of the kits is another reason for the demotivation of the young African Americans for opt for the sport. The starting price of a baseball kit has risen to almost around $135 and spending this huge amount for baseball was a very tough thing for the kids that simultaneously led to their demotivation. The rising price of the kit was creating a barrier for the African American players and hence today there are only 7.7% African American players in the Major League sessions. (Spearman, L., et al. 2017)

Conclusion

From the above discussion it can be concluded that the future of the African American baseball players is in danger until discrimination ends and the players are given ample opportunities to prove themselves as sportsmen. Today the world lacks African American baseball players having good capabilities and strong devotion towards the sport. This stereotype should end and every one should get the opportunity into sports.
