Introduction

Several aspects of career have been discussed and the department in which I want to work in future has also been stated. The professional benefits and limitations of working in the sector have also been analysed.

A2- Part One

Career

Career is the course or progress throughout the life of an individual. It involves the process of learning and its practical application. It means the working aspects of the lives of people. The word career is sometimes used to describe the profession or occupation of an individual that usually involves some kind of formal education or training. It is viewed as a sequence of job-related activities that an individual undertakes in order to shape his professional life. The organizational behaviour researchers have defined career as work related and other relevant experiences that an individual gains both inside as well as outside the organization and it forms a unique part of an individual's life span. Currently, people are very focused towards their careers and they take part in active and purposeful management of their careers which is also known as career management. They possess several skills and are capable of identifying the path that will lead to achievement of their goals in life. To me, career is very essential as it shapes the future prospects of an individual. An individual must devote the important years of life in order to decide his or her career and to formulate a future course of action to attain it. Career management skills are very essential and they must be possessed by every individual. According to me, an individual must pursue such a career that motivates him and towards which he's passionate. Much time must be devoted in order to decider career and to plan a path towards reaching there. A good career makes an individual motivated and he can function in an effective manner towards his career-oriented objectives (Bondi, Cacchiani, Malavasi and Sezzi, 2020).

Chosen Sector

The sector that I have chosen is the hospitality sector and I would like to work in the restaurant Department. The three entry level roles that are suitable for me as an entrant are as follows-

• Hotel security officer- The job roles associated with this entry level post is to ensure that relevant security measures are taken in the hotel building and to ensure that safety of the guests is maintained. As a security officer, I will have to make sure that all the hotel policies are followed and relevant security measures are taken by the hotel authorities (Brunel and Heiser, 2020).
• Food and beverage service officer-The job roles associated with this entry level post is to ensure that relevant safety measures are taken while preparing food and beverages. I would be the in charge of monitoring the activities of the dishwashers, raw material suppliers, wait staff, room service attendant, cook and the restaurant host. It will be ensured that complete hygiene and cleanliness is maintained at the time of preparing food and beverages. Also, systematic pursuance of all the activities will be monitored by me (Fernández, García and Riestra, 2020).
• Room attendant-The job roles associated with this entry level post is to ensure that all the requirements of the guests are fulfilled and they are supplied with all the essentials on time. I will be in the front lines of monitoring the cleanliness of rooms, the activities of housekeeping staff etc. It would be my duty to ensure that all the requirements of the customers are fulfilled as and when they ask for it and to see whether they are comfortable with the services or not (Henneman, Burke, LeBlanc and Smithline, 2021).

All these roles of a security officer, Food and beverage service officer and room attendant is quite suitable for me. This is because, firstly, I like the job roles that are associated with these positions and will be very comfortable in doing this. Also, I like to explore these activities and want to serve the guests by working in any of the above-mentioned positions.

Professional Benefits of working in Hospitality Sector

The three main professional benefits that I will get by working in the hospitality sector can be explained as follows-

• Professional creativity- Working in this sector involves creativity and flexibility. The job role Several positions in this sector do not have monotonous functions. I as an individual, will get a chance to explore my capabilities and skills and to perform different types of jobs under regular basis. It will be quite exciting and creative for me to manage different guests every day time to explore more about this profession (MacKenzie, Merritt, Holstead and Sarty, 2020).
• Career advancement-Working in this sector will help me enhance my career my providing me several opportunities. It will give me growth and advancement opportunities and will also help me to explore more about this profession. Working in this sector will be very beneficial for me as it will open more opportunities in future (Morrell, Eukel and Santurri, 2020).
• Development of skills and capabilities-Working in this sector will help me develop my skills and capabilities as per the changing circumstances. Regular adaptation to the several job responsibilities given will be challenging as well as satisfactory for me (Murphy, 2020).

Expectations of working in this sector

There are several expectations of working in the hospitality sector. First of all, it is expected that I am adaptable to all types of circumstances and flexible to all changes. Secondly, it is expected that I serve the guests in a very friendly and warm manner. Thirdly, I’m expected to fulfil all my responsibilities with at most efficiency and devotion. Also, it is expected that I am knowledgeable about the tasks of my peers as well so that if any emergency arises, I will be able to handle them. All these responsibilities will have to be performed by me in the most efficient manner. I will have to fulfil the expectations of my superiors.

Challenges of working in the Hospitality Sector

There are several challenges of working in the hospitality sector, some of them are as follows-

Challenge 1

Sustainability- In the world of strong competition, it is very difficult for the hotels to sustain in the industry. This poses great difficulties to the hotels in this sector and many of them have to shut down due to excessive pressure and competition. It is very difficult for the hotels to sustain in such a competitive environment and it creates difficulties for the small hotels and restaurants as they are eliminated from the competition (Singh and Lobo, 2020).

Coping up- To use sustainable practices and promote it.

Challenge 2

Constantly changing environment- A very dynamic and constantly changing environment poses challenges for the hotels and restaurants in this industry and they are not being able to compete (Taylor et al, 2020).

Coping up- To be flexible and dynamic towards changes.

Challenge 3

Huge investment- Another major limitation of this industry is that huge investment is required. This creates problems especially for the small hotels and restaurants (Pepper and McGrath, 2020).

Coping up- To plan innovative opportunities for alternative and affordable investments.

Tasks to be completed

The tasks to be completed are as follows-

• At first, I have to select a particular department in the hospitality sector in which I want to get my internship.
• Then, I have to prepare the curriculum vitae and the cover letter which will give a brief overview to the potential employers regarding my skills and capabilities. It is very essential to prepare it in the best manner as it leaves a first impression in the minds of employers.
• I have to gather information regarding the organisation and the functioning of its departments.
• I will have to prepare for the interview in the best manner.
• Then interviews will be conducted with the potential employers.

• Specific- To establish goals related to my future career and achievements. It must be defined specifically.
• Measurable- To measure my performance in the most effective and logical manner. It must be measurable in some units of by way of standards of performance.
• Achievable- To achieve all my planned goals and objectives by formulating plans for them. Both short-term and long-term goals must be formulated (Tiba and Condy, 2021).
• Realistic- To set targets and objectives that are realistic in nature.
• Timely- To met the short term as well as long term goals and objectives on time. Time to time monitoring must also be done to improve the overall performance (Unsworth and Tummons, 2021).

Conclusion

Thus, it can be concluded that an individual must devote the important years of life in order to decide his or her career and to formulate a future course of action to attain it. Career management skills are very essential and they must be possessed by every individual.
