Introduction

The approach of Kolb’s synthesizes the behavior and goal which is directed to the theories based on learning to create a cycle of learning (2018). This learning cycle values the ongoing learning nature and processes.

The objective of this report is to describe Kolb’s learning cycle on module 1 that is an introduction to contemporary business, module 2 that is data, knowledge, and information management, module 3 that is business information systems, module 4 that is the application of the system of business information, and module 5 that is an information security and privacy.

This report will be covering up prospects of a description of Kolb’s learning cycle and its four stages such as the experience of reflective observation, using the active experimentation for future planning tasks, forming the abstract conceptualization by experience thinking, and completing an activity of concrete experience based on the 5 modules. With these four stages, a learner can progress their learning repeatedly. In this report, my reflection on the experience on the progress of four steps of Kolb’s learning cycle and how it relates to my life and own career will be discussed.

Discussion about Kolb’s learning cycle 

Kolb said that the concept of abstract acquisition is involved in learning. This new model is developed for the new concepts for the experience. Kolb states about this cycle because he believed that learning is the method of knowledge creation via experience transformation.

The four stages of Kolb’s learning cycle are shown in the above figure. In this given picture, the axis which is aligned in east-west is known as the processing continuum that refers to the approach for a task, and the axis which is aligned in north-south is known as the perception continuum that refers to our emotional replies such as feeling, thinking (Kolb’s learning cycle, 2021). Concrete experience indicates the feeling, reflective observation indicates the watching, abstract conceptualization indicates the thinking, and active experimentation indicates the doing.

Reflective Observation

Reflective observation refers to the experience of reflecting and reviewing. In this section, I will discuss about the key skills and key concepts from the 5 modules. The concept of contemporary business what I have understood that it refers to the very competitive environment in the marketplace (Subekti, 2020). The owner of the contemporary business can understand the development and the requirement of the need of business to get fast response and create a huge amount of revenue from the company. And the skills of contemporary business are communication, courtesy, flexibility, integrity, interpersonal skills, positive attitude, professionalism, and responsibility. The concept of data, knowledge, and information management will be discussed in this section. The concept of data management which I have understood is it is a procedure to keep and collect the data very efficiently and securely. An organization collects data that can be maintained, organized, investigated, and stored. The concept of knowledge management which I have understood is the process of sharing, retaining, structuring, and defining the experience and knowledge. The concept of information management which I have understood is it refers to the management and collection of information (Renaud & Zimmermann, 2018). The skills I have learned from the information management are data integrity, files, and account management. The skills I have learned from the knowledge management are human relations, technical skills, and conceptual skills. The skills I have learned from information management are strong technical skills, teamwork skills, and time management. The concept of business information systems refers to the information system that provides the information in an organization by using the technology and computer system. the skills of business information systems are solving the problem, computer programming, and management skills (Aqeel-ur-Rehman et al., 2016). The concept of application of the system of business information is business software which is a set of programs in a computer system that is used for business functions. The skill of application of the system of business information is strong technical skills. The concept of information security and privacy is related to the information that is controlled and used for security purposes. The skill of information security and privacy is security knowledge for several platforms.

Abstract conceptualization

Abstract conceptualization refers to the learning experience and the concluding experience. In this section, I will discuss the analysis of my new information, situation, and experience from the 5 modules. Value, perception, marketing and sales, retention, investment, innovation, life balance is the most important experience which I have realized in module 1 for contemporary business (Zhang et al., 2017). I have learned from module 2 of data, knowledge, and information management is the knowledge management in the context of business, the importance of data, differences between information and data, the value of knowledge, knowledge system, the cycle of knowledge management, and the concept of big data (Aqeel-ur-Rehman et al., 2016). I have learned about the business information system is it has three layers such as knowledge support work, management support, and operational support. The application of the business system requires more technological support as it has lots of applications which is the primary need of an organization. Information security and privacy needs more strong security in an organization. And the entire business requires more privacy in their organization.

Active experimentation

Active experimentation refers the learning things and planning. In this section, I will discuss my planning from the new knowledge from the 5 modules. Planning is the most essential part of contemporary business. A business needs planning for controlling, monitoring, and leading to run the business (Akhtar et al., 2018). Business needs long-term as well as a short-term goals. Planning for marketing and sales is very important for contemporary business as it has high competition in the market. To compete with other companies, the contemporary business needs a huge amount of customer base (Dartey-Baah & Ampofo, 2016). Therefore, they need to plan first for making the customer base. I have gain lots of new knowledge in this module that are tacit knowledge, articulate knowledge, and the characteristics of tactic and explicit knowledge. Planning for the new technology adoption is very important for an organization (Vukotić, Aničić & Vukotić, 2017). Also, I have a belief that I also have to use new technology by using information management with the collaboration of data management and knowledge management. The planning of the business information system is very important as it required for strong programming. the application of the business information planning is essential for any business as it needs strong technical skills. The easy to use application is required for any industry to run the business. The planning for information security and privacy is also very important as it relates to the security system (Aqeel-ur-Rehman et al., 2016). According to my understanding, the security must be very high in an organization as it has very essential information and files into the computer system.

Concrete Experience

Concrete experience refers to having and doing experience. In this section, I will discuss my experience from the 5 modules. The contemporary business needs to be very significant. It also needs financing, technology to evolve and make new strategies with the help of the technologies, and a better customer base (Tarabasz, Selaković & Abraham, 2018). I have experienced in this module is about big data. Many companies such as eBay, Facebook, Google, and LinkedIn use this technology of big data to grow their business. I have realized that big data is very necessary for this digital era (Dartey-Baah & Ampofo, 2016). I have learned the three layers of business information systems. The operational support makes the system of information base. The application of business information system has very strong technical support. And that is the initial requirement of an organization. The information security and privacy are the heart of an any business. The business needs more strong security and privacy policy.

Conclusion

Kolb synthesizes the behavior and goal which is directed to the theories based on learning to create a cycle of learning. In the above discussion, we have discussed Kolb’s learning cycle. The theory of learning style is represented by the cycle in four stages such as reflective observation, concrete experience, active experimentation, and abstract conceptualization and its implementation on the 5 modules. The reflective observation refers to the experience reflecting and reviewing, the concrete experience refers to having and doing experience, active experimentation refers the learning things and planning, and abstract conceptualization refers to the learning experience and the concluding experience based on the 5 modules. Hence, it can be concluded that the discussion has successfully highlighted the four stages of Kolb’s learning cycle in the reflection on 5 modules.
