Primary Source Analysis A: British Colonist article

“The Tynemouth at San Francisco” written by Amor de Cosmos is a newspaper article which was being published in the “The Daily British Colonist” (1862). This article merely tries to provide information to the people of San Francisco regarding the arrival of some sixty crinolines and some twenty unmarried female immigrants who would be settling in the concerned region. However, the newspaper article also subtly indicates the barbaric practices followed by the Yankees and thereby asks the people not to get their hopes high since they would be able to get the crinolines and the unmarried women would be able to settle down in San Francisco if they are being able to escape the Yankees. Thus, the article actually highlights the practice of raiding the cargos by the Yankees and stealing them which actually became a cause of great concern during the Confederation era.
