NURS1010 The Nature of Nursing Practice

Advanced practice nursing competencies adopts evidence based as well as expert knowledge for complex decision-making skills in the area of clinical competencies for assessing the health requirements of the patient and to ensure the provision of care towards individuals in a holistic approach. The advanced nursing practice competencies according to Hamric’s model identifies direct clinical practice, expert advice and coaching, research skills, consultation, collaboration, professional and clinical leadership followed by ethical decision-making approach (Goemaes et al., 2019).

Towards reflecting on my challenges and strength related to the nursing practice competencies, it can be stated that some of my strength includes development of multiple advanced assessment as well as intervention of strategies within the client centred framework for communities and individual patients (Lavoie et al., 2018). I furthermore take pride in my strength of analysing complex interactions of psychological, sociological as well as physiological procedure together the determinants of the client and his health experience. As a registered nurse while working with adults at the medical surgery unit, I also have this strength of anticipating and explaining range of client responses to potential health problems while also recommending actions while guiding the patient towards decision making at complex clinical situations.

Currently, as a registered nurse, I am enrolled in the advanced practice class for the care of adults in the school for family nurse practitioners targeting to provide services and care across the lifespan of the adults. My strengths as a registered nurse will definitely help me to accomplish my career objective in the family nurse practitioners since these core competencies have helped me not only to gain confidence but also ensure critical thinking ability in complex clinical settings. However, some of the challenges that I need to focus and work on for accomplishing the goal of becoming nursing manager and a family nurse leader involves adopting a transformational approach and encouraging my other peers and ensure collaboration. I need to manage wide ranges of patient responses towards potential health problems. Since I have a very restricted communication skill, I need to improve my communication skill and ensure towards attention to detail and empathy while targeting to become a nursing leader. Apart from these characteristics some of the core values that I currently lac and need to focus, includes autonomy, human dignity as well as social justice.
