The ability for establishing effective communication in nursing is important for providing the best possible outcome for patient and care. The skills of a registered nurse in terms of communication are active listening skills, skills of proper patient education verbal and non-verbal communication. In the entire departments, nurse leaders set the tone in terms of communication within the members of the team and department, with the patients and their families and also the doctors. This comprises of sharing all the information in terms of sharing patient information and their progress updates for resolving any conflict between colleagues (Lyndon et al., 2015). Communication has been identified by the standard 2.1 of the NMBA standards (2016) where proper establishment, adherence and sustenance of relationship is promoted for maintaining the boundaries of personnel and professional relationships.
The leadership qualities for a registered nurse in terms of person-centered skills active listening skills, maintaining privacy, partnership with others for the patient welfare, respecting the patient, etc. The approach of person centered practice enables nurses to recognize every patient uniquely and as a complex person. Person centered practice is important as suggested by literature that the evidence based approach is useful for developing person care plan for example patients with dementia should be valued and respected, should be treated as individuals with unique needs (Fazio et al., 2018). This practice aligned with the NMBA (2016) standards 5.3 which says the nurse develops, evaluated and would evaluate a plan according to the agreed outcomes and 1.1 in which the nurse would access, analyze the most suitable evidence for safe practice.
