The case study indicates that the old man was ailing from chronic lung disease and was taken to hospital by the family members. Due to inadequate staff in the California Hospital, the healthcare providers placed the patient under robot care. It frustrated the family members as they felt that the patient was not provided with adequate care as they expected. It was the machine that informed the family members that the facility had insufficient capacity to cater for treatment. The machine was unclear that the granddaughter passed the information to the ailing patient. The healthcare providers apologized for failing to meet the client's expectations. It made the family members to be frustrated by the poor services provided.
According to Kinnaman, (2017) old people are supposed to be handled with care whether they are sick or not. Proper health care for the population will result in to increase in the old population. When young people are not guided on how to manage their health, it will be challenging for them to see old age. The healthcare providers should identify reasons why young people do not reach their old age, and then address them. The old people should be provided with basic needs to make them determined to live much longer. When they are neglected, they also neglect their health where most of them will refuse to seek medical attention. Life expectancy will be increased by checking on the diet consumed by the population. Similarly, health conditions that come with age should be addressed in advance. Reuben, (2019) connotes that patients need to sense the presence of the caretaker, for them to feel that people are concerned about their welfare. Thus, the healthcare workers, the government, and other agencies should show their care to old people whether they are ailing or not. It will make their lives smooth as their needs are catered for. Although people are busy with daily engagements, it should not mean negligence to the old people.
When human beings are concerned and sensitive to ailing people, the life span will be increased having a huge population of old people. Such will be achieved when there is adequate medical staff to provide healthcare services as connoted by Hockey & Jerrome, (2018). Every person will be reached at, and their needs addressed as supposed. It will meet clients' expectations when they are seeking these services. Sufficient medical should be supplemented by adequate resources. Health facilities should have the necessary equipment so that when people go for treatment, they with getting quality services. The American healthcare system is not ready to meet the demand of the increasing older population's needs. The types of equipment are still insufficient and lack enough personnel to operate the equipment. Part of the population is still ignorant of the importance of seeking medical assistance. The healthcare system has failed to enlighten the general public of the importance of seeking treatment. The system should engage in campaigns to inform the public about health issues affecting different age groups and how to go about it.
Psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners (PMHNP) are responsible for taking care of issues affecting the old population. Psychiatric issues such as depression and dementia have affected old people in a great way. As they are equipped with the necessary skills, they should utilize their potential to address these issues. They should mobilize sufficient resources that will be used for treating old people. Frequent training and motivation should be provided to these practitioners to deliver quality services to old patients (Perrig & Stahelin, 2018). The old people must be encouraged to take a healthy diet, seek mental health, be physically and actively engaged, and socialized for them to lead a quality life.
The psychiatrists should cooperate with the secondary healthcare providers to take care of the old patients. They include family members and friends who interact daily with old people. They will remind the old patients to take their medicine at the right time. Such collaboration will ensure that the health provision exercise is effective. As old people are prone to memory loss, they require having someone to care for them. Thus, the mental conditions of old patients will be stabilized when the necessary stakeholders come on board.
