Topic: Difference between arteries and veins

The blood vessels circulating blood, enriched with oxygen, away from heart to the other organs of the body are the arteries. On the contrary, veins carry bloods low in oxygen back to heart, which ensures smooth functioning of the process of reoxygenation. Pulmonary arteries do not take part in circulation of oxygenated blood from heart to other organs of the body. On the other hand, pulmonary veins do not carry deoxygenated blood back to heart from the organs of the body (Red?Horse & Siekmann, 2019). Structure wise, arteries are surrounded by thick elastic more muscular walls, and veins are surrounded by thin non-elastic and smaller number of muscular walls. In terms of location, arteries are deeper within the layers of skin, and veins could be seen very closer to the skin surface. Along with this, valves are present in arteries, but absent in veins. Arteries are efficient in circulating blood, enriched with oxygen, away from heart to the other organs of the body, under high pressure. On the other hand, veins take blood, low in oxygen back to heart, under low pressure (Krüger-Genge et al., 2019). Apart from this, arteries and veins can be differentiated based on colour; that is, arteries are reddish, but veins are bluish.
